Best ways to remove grease off all kitchen surfaces

No matter where you live, your kitchen will always be a gathering space for you, your partner, and your friends. Kitchens are a place of comfort because it’s where you nourish the body with food and drink.

Sharing a meal in your kitchen inspires hospitality, and your friends and family will appreciate the effort. But when the meal is done, you may notice that your cabinets and stainless appliances look a bit worse for wear.

Quickly tackling these stains is key to keeping your surfaces in good condition, but you need a definitive guide on how to accomplish this. Here are some tips to help you clean the grease off your kitchen surfaces without damaging them.

first

Kitchen cabinets are the easiest to clean. No matter what they are made of, they generally have coatings, sealants, or glass surfaces. They also get dirty very quickly from spills and splatters. If you’re going to use a commercial cleaner and your cabinets are made of wood, Murphy’s Oil Soap is a great product that cleans and protects.

If you’d like a simple DIY formula, use a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and warm water, then add two-three drops of dish detergent. Apply using your spray bottle, leave it for a minute or two, and then wipe it off with a soft cloth.

For stubborn stains, mix a paste of salt and vinegar, and gently scrub the stain with a soft cloth or soft toothbrush.

-steel surface

There’s nothing like the look of polished stainless steel. It’s bright, it’s durable, and looks so clean. Until it doesn’t. Stainless picks up everything from dust and grease to fingerprints and water spots. Keeping stainless surfaces looking their best takes a minute if you do it every day, but you’ll need something a bit stronger if you don’t.

If you’re a person who cleans everything in the kitchen every day, your microfiber cloth will take care of your stainless surfaces perfectly. Just rub them down with the grain, and you’re set. If you clean on weekends, an excellent product to clean the grease off stainless surfaces is Therapy Stainless Steel Cleaner + Polish. It’s like a secret weapon for your stainless steel.

# Natural stone surfaces and countertops

Your kitchen may be graced with beautiful granite or marble countertops. These surfaces are usually sealed before they are installed, but sealants need to be applied regularly to keep the surfaces stain-resistant. Stone is porous and can be damaged with acidic cleaners and harsh chemicals. It may be tempting to use a lemon or an orange oil grease cutter on your counters, but it’s important to resist that urge.

For a well-sealed countertop, blotting with clean, dry paper towels works best. If you feel the need to use soap, use a pH-neutral soap such as Frosch pH-Neutral Universal Cleaner to ensure you clean the stone without acid to damage the counter.

# Concrete countertops

A modern trend in kitchen design is to construct the countertops from concrete. It gives a sleek and austere look and feel, and the neutral color goes with everything. Similar to stone counters, concrete counter installers seal the surface before use. However, some people prefer a raw look without sealant. It looks good, but is highly susceptible to staining, especially from grease and oil.

The paste-under-plastic wrap method works well for concrete countertops and uses different ingredients and a slightly different process. Where the cornstarch was allowed to dry under the perforated plastic, the acetone in the following procedure works on the stain under the plastic first without drying. Make sure you have proper ventilation to employ this cleaning method.

1) Make a paste with the consistency of peanut butter from baking soda, flour (or powdered sugar), and acetone.

2) Spread the paste on the stain.

3) Cover it with plastic wrap and tape the edges to maintain the seal.

4) Leave for 24 hours

5) Remove the plastic and let the paste dry — it is during this drying process that the baking soda and flour draw out the oils from the stain.

6) Make sure it is completely dry before you remove it from the countertop.

It’s important to note that acetone can damage some sealants, so make sure you know what type of sealant is on your counter.

Always remember that prevention is the best way to protect your kitchen surfaces. Dirt and grease are unavoidable on many surfaces, but keeping some protective heat-resistant pads, lots of kitchen towels, and attractive trivets will extend the life and looks of your stone and concrete counters. And always do your research to avoid possible damage to your living space.

HOW TO CLEAN AN OVEN WITHOUT CHEMICALS

Cleaners filled with harsh chemicals are widely available and easy to find, but it is just as simple to create your own solution when it comes to cleaning an oven. Making your own cleaner with natural ingredients is healthier for you, your family, and the environment. For a deep cleaning, you can use citrus, such as lemon, or create a paste made out of baking soda and water. For a spill or routine cleaning, use salt and vinegar.

CLEANING WITH LEMON

1) Cut the lemons. Cut two lemons in half. Squeeze the lemon juice into a baking dish. Put the rest of the lemons into the dish. Fill the dish a third of the way with water.

**If you don’t have lemons, you can use another type of citrus, like oranges.

2) Place the baking dish in the oven. Turn the oven on to 250°F (121.1°C). Leave the oven on for 30 minutes.

**Leave the dish in the oven for longer than 30 minutes if there is a lot of build-up in the oven.

3) Scrub the oven. Remove the dish from the oven after 30 minutes. The lemons act as a natural degreaser and will cause the build-up in the oven to loosen up. Use a scouring pad to remove the loosened build-up. You may need to use a spatula to remove larger chunks of build-up.

**Wait a few minutes for the oven to cool down before you clean.

4) Rinse off the oven. Use the leftover lemon water in the baking dish to rinse off the oven. Dip a sponge in the water, and wash off the remainder of the grime. Continue to scrub until the oven is clean. Use a towel to dry off the lemon water.

5) Smoke may emit from the oven while you are cleaning. Open a window and/or turn on the oven fan if this occurs.

USING BAKING SODA & VINEGAR

1) Take everything out of the oven. First, remove the oven racks. Then take out anything else that may be in the oven, like a baking stone or thermometer. Check to make sure everything has been removed before you begin to clean.

**If there are any stains on your baking stone when you remove it, now can be a good time to clean it separately.

2) Create a paste. Mix a ½ cup (170 g) of baking soda with about 3 tablespoons (44.4 mL) of water in a bowl. You can adjust the amount of water if necessary. The mixture should create a spreadable paste.

3) Coat the oven with the paste. Wear rubber gloves to spread the paste all over the inside of the oven. You can also use a spatula to spread the paste if you don’t want to use your hands. Coat every part of the inside of the oven except the heating elements.

**The paste may turn brown and/or chunky in some areas. That is normal.

4) Let the paste sit overnight. Allow the paste to sit for 12 hours or overnight. If you don’t have that much time, let the paste sit for 40 minutes. You may have to let the paste sit again for 30-40 more minutes if the paste doesn’t work as well as desired the first time.

5) Wipe the oven down. Use a cloth that has been dampened with water to wipe off the paste. You may have to scrub hard to remove some of the paste. If scrubbing doesn’t work, use a spatula to remove as much of the paste as possible.

6) Use vinegar. Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar inside the oven. The vinegar will cause the paste to foam. Use a damp a cloth to wipe off any residue that remains

7) Put everything back inside the oven. Replace the racks inside of the oven once it dries out. You can allow the oven to air dry, or you can use a towel. Put anything else that was in the oven back inside, such as the oven thermometer. The oven should be clean and shiny.

APPLYING SALT & VINEGAR

1) Turn on the oven. Turn the temperature to 150°F (65.5°C). You can choose to clean when the oven is still warm after baking. Clean the oven while it is still warm if you’ve spilled something while baking.

2) Sprinkle salt into the oven. You can use regular table salt. Spread a generous amount of salt onto the floor of the oven. You don’t have to completely cover the oven floor, but there should be a thin layer of salt.

3) Scrub while the oven is still warm. Put on oven mitts before you scrub. Use a sponge or rag to scrub before the oven cools down. Scrub until the build-up begins to lift and come off.

4) Finish with vinegar and water. Spray white vinegar into the oven. Use a rag that has been dampened with water to remove the rest of the spill or build-up. Use a paper towel to dry the oven.

How to Clean a Dining Room

The dining room is the place where your family shares. Food, highlights of the day, and just time together are all part of the dining room ritual. This room needs to be a welcoming and comfortable space, which means at the very least it must be clean. Use our guide to keep your dining room cozy and pleasant

Dust

Dust any furniture in the dining room. Dust especially loves to settle into cloth and fiber, so if you have fabric on your chairs or a tablecloth, run a vacuum attachment over these items. When it’s time to dust the china, be extra careful.

Vacuum

Vacuum the carpet or rug and the blinds or curtains. These things collect a lot of dust, especially the blinds if the windows are often open. Weekly cleaning is a great way to keep the dust to a minimum.

Clean the Chairs

At some point the dining room chairs will need a good scrubbing, especially if there are children in the house. Check the label to see what can be used to clean your chairs.

Clean the Table Dining Room

Remove anything on the table. Spray the surface with a disinfectant and wipe down with a clean cloth. Replace the items after the table has dried.

How to Clean Nonstick Cookware and Bakeware

Nonstick cookware and bakeware can produce chef-quality results if you take the time and effort to use and care for it properly. Improper cleaning can warp or ruin the nonstick cookware. While you should always check with your product's manufacturer for specific recommendations, there are some general cleaning rules that will help garner top performance and durability from your nonstick cookware.

> Before Using New Cookware

Before using new cookware for the first time, wash it with hot, soapy water, rinse well, and dry it thoroughly with a soft cotton or linen towel. To ensure nonstick performance from the start, it has been standard practice to "season" or "condition" the pan by lightly coating the surface with any type of cooking oil, baking it, and wiping it clean. At least one maker, Calphalon, says this one-time seasoning is not necessary for nonstick cookware.

> How Often to Clean Nonstick Cookware

Clean your nonstick cookware after every use. Keeping your nonstick cookware clean will provide a more consistent, quality performance. Any food residue or leftover grease will cook into the surface and carbonize, causing food to stick. That cooked-on residue is hard to see and even more difficult to remove, so wash carefully and thoroughly every time.

What You'll Need 👇

Equipment / Tools :

👉Washcloth, sponge, nylon scrubber, or nylon net-wrapped sponge such as a Dobie pad

Materials :

👉Dish soap
👉Hot water

Instructions 👇

👉Start With Cool Cookware

It's essential to let the cookware cool completely before washing; immersing a hot pan in cooler water could permanently warp and ruin it.

👉Always Handwash

Though it's tempting to load the pans into the dishwasher, resist the convenience and always wash nonstick cookware by hand with hot, soapy water using only a dish detergent made for handwashing. The high heat of a standard home dishwasher can not only ruin nonstick surfaces but also void the warranty. Take care never to use harsh cleaning agents such as bleach, abrasive cleansers, or other chemicals on nonstick surfaces.

👉Scrub Gently

Though it's best to handle these pots and pans as if they're fragile, you can scrub off stubborn messes with some elbow grease and a washcloth, sponge, nylon scrubber, or nylon net-wrapped sponge such as a Dobie pad. To avoid the risk of residue and the resulting carbonization, it's a good habit to wash each piece twice to ensure that every last trace of food and oil or butter is removed.

Warning !!

Never use abrasives such as steel wool, stiff brushes, or scouring pads. These harsh materials will scratch the surface and ruin your cookware.

👉Rinse

Rinse thoroughly, making sure that all soapy residue has been rinsed and removed.

👉Dry Thoroughly

Dry each piece completely. Use a dishcloth or clean rag

👉Store Properly

Careful storage is important for the lifespan and performance of nonstick cookware. Most manufacturers recommend storing your cookware on a hanging pot rack with plenty of room between items. Don't worry if you don't have a hanging rack. You can safely store your cookware in a cabinet by layering a soft cloth, such as a baby's receiving blanket or an oversize dish towel, between each pot and pan to protect the nonstick surface from coming into contact with bare metal, which can scratch or damage it.

> Cooking With Nonstick Cookware

Nonstick cookware performs better at slightly lower temperatures than standard cookware; experimentation will help you find the perfect settings. Calphalon recommends what it calls the "butter test": Heat the pan on medium-high, and when its rim feels hot to the touch, add a pat of butter. If it bubbles, the heat is right. If it browns quickly and burns, clean out the pan and try again at a lower heat setting.

The greatest advantage of nonstick cookware is that it needs no butter or oil to keep the food from sticking, but you can certainly add fats for taste and texture. It's the perfect cookware for people who are watching their weight or cholesterol levels or who are following a heart-healthy menu. There are fat-free cooking sprays perfect for use with nonstick cookware; they ensure easy release and don't add any fat or calories to the food.

Whether you invest in a high-quality set of cookware or buy one bargain pan, you can greatly extend the lifespan of your nonstick cookware with careful use, meticulous cleaning, and mindful storage.

How to Deep Clean a Dirty Living Room

While we may be doing an excellent job of maintaining our living rooms, occasionally we need to do more than maintenance. Take the time to review what goes into a living room intense cleanup.

What You Need :

**Dust mop (preferably with a long handle)
**Step-ladder
**Cleaning cloths
**Small bucket with handle
**Sponges
**Vacuum with attachment
**Gentle cleanser
**Rug shampoo machine with upholstery attachment (optional)
**Spot remover for upholstery or carpets (optional)

Steps for a Thorough Cleaning :

1. Begin with a 15-minute living room cleanup.

This will clear out the clutter and give you room to do the actual intense cleaning in your living room. Don't worry about cleaning the floors in the 15 minute clean up. We will do this later.

2. Dust down the living room ceiling and corners of walls in.

Determine if the walls need to be washed in dirty spots. Spot wash, remembering air vents, doork***s, doors, and switch plates.

3. Dust and clean all art and photographs along the walls in the living room.

Be careful when cleaning framed art and photographs. Never spray cleaner or water onto the frame. The liquid can seep behind the glass and damage the pictures. Instead lightly wet a clean cloth to wipe the frame and glass.

4. Dust and clean the ceiling fan in the living room.

There is nothing more embarrassing than turning on a ceiling fan and having large chunks of dust fall down on your guest's head. Use this living room cleaning time to dust down the fan and fan blades. You may need to use a gentle cleaner like Murphy's Oil Soap. Take down any light fixtures and gently wash and dry them before replacing.

5. Take down draperies, curtains, and blinds to wash or have cleaned according to the manufacturer's directions.

Vacuum and clean windowsills and corners. Wash the insides and outsides of the windows. Take down and rinse off the screens of the living room windows, before replacing.

6. Dust and clean out the couches and chairs.

Use a vacuum cleaner with an attachment to clean out couch crevices. Check to make sure none of your missing items have found their way into the abyss of the couch. Clean slipcovers, accent pillows, etc. in the living room. Use an upholstery attachment on a rug shampoo machine to clean soiled couches and chair surfaces if needed. If a light cleaning is needed use upholstery spot cleaner. Test in a hidden area first.

7. Dust down and clean all accent lamps and knickknacks in the living room.

Use a vacuum attachment or duster to clean the lampshades, lamps, and any extra decorative items.

8. Remove books from bookshelves.

Dust down the books and the shelves. If your collection of books is overflowing, it might be time to donate, trash, or sell. Too many books weighing down shelves can give a living room the appearance of being cluttered.

9. Dust down accent tables and your living room's entertainment center.

Unplug and dust down all the electronics. Check cords for fraying and wear. Dust down the television screen.

10. Clean the carpets and rugs.

If your carpets and rugs are heavily soiled it may be time to call a professional. You can also rent cleaning machines to use. Be sure to ask for one with an upholstery attachment. If your carpets are only lightly soiled vacuuming and spot treating may be all that is necessary.

11. Take the time to clean the doormats inside and outside your doorways.

Wipe them down. Dust them off. Whatever needs to happen so that shoes don't transfer the dirt of your mat to your home. Double check that your mats are still in good condition to protect your carpets

15 Bad Cleaning Habits You Need to Break

We're all looking for ways to make cleaning faster and easier. Believe it or not, sometimes taking certain "shortcuts" actually makes it harder on you in the long haul. You and your family may even have developed some bad habits that are inhibiting your ability to get the job done more efficiently (you may even be causing harm to your home!)

1. Allowing Paper Clutter to Accumulate

Even with online billing and banking, there is still a mountain of paper that ends up in our homes. Magazines, newspapers, school papers and projects; they have a tendency to pile up. Don't let that happen.
Designate a place near the entryway for all mail, periodicals, and paper forms and keep a shredder or recycling bin close by. At least once a week, sort through and complete the needed action or toss.

File important papers like tax receipts. Take digital photos of children's special artwork or frame them for display. Share magazines with retirement homes, schools, or simply read the articles online.

2. Leaving Wet Towels and Shower Curtains Bunched Up

Want to spend less time in the laundry room and scrubbing mildew from bathroom surfaces? Don't leave wet shower curtains bunched up and wet towels in a heap on the floor.

This is one of the simplest bad habits to break. By closing the shower curtain after each use, it will dry more quickly and discourage mildew growth. By hanging wet towels to dry, you'll get a second or third use and lighten your laundry loads.

3. Using Too Much Cleaning Product

If a little bit of cleaner works, then a lot of cleaner will work better and faster? Right? That's not how it works.

Using too much cleaner or laundry detergent can actually cause more harm than good. If an excess of cleaning product is not rinsed away completely, the residue becomes a dirt magnet, trapping soil. That's why you should read directions and always use the recommended amount or even a little less. You're wasting time and money on the extra product and the water to rinse it away.

4. Cleaning With Dirty Tools

How can you expect clean results when you are using dirty cleaning tools? If your washer has an odor from built-up bacteria in detergent residue, your clothes are going to stink. If your vacuum bag or filter is filled with dust, it won't do a good job sucking up any more. A dirty mop or sponge simply pushes around more soil and bacteria.

Take the time to thoroughly clean tools after every use by emptying completely or washing in hot water and adding a disinfectant. Periodically, replace with new tools.

5. Using One Disinfectant Wipe to Clean Entire Bathroom

Disposable disinfectant wipes are great for a quick wipe down of a bathroom sink. But that little square hardly contains enough disinfectant to clean an entire bathroom. By the time you reach the toilet seat and handles, the disinfectant qualities are gone and you are simply spreading bacteria from one surface to another.

To be effective, the wipe should contain enough disinfectant moisture so the surface remains wet for at least four minutes. For a thorough cleaning, use multiple wipes or a clean cloth and sufficient disinfectant and water solution.

6. Leaving Dirty Dishes in the Sink

How much longer would it take to put that dirty glass in the dishwasher instead of the sink? Leaving dirty dishes in the sink is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and a jackpot for hungry insects.

Train everyone in the household to either put the dishes in the dishwasher or wash them immediately.

7. Wearing Outside Shoes in the House

aking just a few seconds to remove your shoes each time you come in from the outside will save you hours of vacuuming. Not to mention the bacteria and germs that will stay out of living areas.

Whether entry is through a mudroom or the front door, make this habit simple for everyone by providing a bench or chair for easier shoe removal. Keep a shoe tray close by for wet or muddy shoes and a bin to collect each family member's footwear

8. Storing Cleaning Products Incorrectly

Do you spend half your designated cleaning time trying to find the proper cleaners and tools? This is a bad habit that's easy to change.

Gather together the cleaning supplies you need for each area of the home and store them close to that area. Bathroom cleaners can be placed in a small plastic carryall and stashed on a shelf or under the sink. Create two baskets of supplies if you have upstairs and downstairs bathrooms.

Keep dusting and furniture cleaning products and tools together for quick touch-ups. And, of course, all laundry products should be stored safely in the laundry room

9. Hoarding Food in the Refrigerator

If you know that your family hates leftovers, then why bother to stash them in the refrigerator? If you are not going to use food promptly, just go ahead and toss it. Improperly stored food promotes mold and bacteria growth and makes cleaning out the refrigerator a much bigger task than it needs to be.

10. Leaving Bed Unmade

Even if the rest of the bedroom is neat and clean, an unmade bed makes it look messy. Just making the bed each morning is a habit that will promote keeping the rest of the room (and maybe the entire house) organized.

Make the task simple by selecting bedding that is easy to spread up neatly. A bed with a simple comforter and pillow shams is much easier to make than one with lots of fussy pillows

11. Not Reading Directions

Have you ever had to redo a task like cleaning soap scum from tile because the cleaner didn't work? Maybe you didn't read the directions.

Most cleaners don't work instantly and need a bit of time so that the ingredients can break down the soil and lift it so it can be easily wiped or rinsed away. Spend 30 seconds reading the directions to avoid 30 minutes of extra scrubbing.

12. Using Harsh Cleaners

Just like using too much cleaner can be a bad habit, using a cleaner that is too harsh for the job is also wrong. You can do more harm than good if the cleaner strips away finishes or creates hazards for your pets and family.

A good example is chlorine bleach. While it is a good disinfectant, it is not a good dirt and grime remover and the fumes can be toxic. Always use the gentlest cleaning products needed to produce results.

13. Dusting Last When Cleaning

Save yourself some effort by dusting before you vacuum. A room should be cleaned from the top down so the dust lands on the floor to be swept or vacuumed away.

And remember how that one disinfectant wipe can't effectively clean an entire bathroom? The same goes for a disposable duster. If it has been awhile since you dusted, grab a clean duster when the one you're using turns a solid grey. You're no longer trapping dust, you're just pushing it around with a dirty duster.

14. Not Completing Tasks

We all get interrupted, but try to complete a task once you've started it. If you bring out the ironing board, don't stop for a social media break until all of the ironing is done.

If you only have 15 minutes to clean, start by removing clutter and putting items in their proper place. Then if you get sidetracked, you can come back later to do the deeper cleaning.

15. Waiting Until the Cleaning Job Is Overwhelming

Putting off cleaning and waiting until the task has become overwhelming is one of the hardest bad habits to break. Most of us can't face a disaster and simply avoid it for as long as possible.

But if you and your family do a bit of cleaning each day, like load and empty the dishwasher, complete a load of laundry, and vacuum one or two rooms, then cleaning the entire house will not be so overwhelming
