From one thrift addict to another, a show of hands please for all those online purchases that frustrated you?
Yup, don't I know it. Here's what I learnt when I started buying thrift items via Shopee Live.
1. Sometimes we get caught up when the seller mentions a brand. Yes, I do it too and it's all good. But we might missed out on a good item that doesn't have a brand. So, focus on the design & cut instead.
2. Ask, ask, ask. Certain stains can be removed. But we all know those pesky ones that wouldn't. And don't get me started on gross spots - neck line, pits, groin. Gross.
3. Measure your favourite clothes as a guide, but keep in mind different cuttings has a different measurement. So to gauge a "safe" sizing guide, have both your body & clothes measurement ready and don't go below that. Look out for keywords like oversized or slim cuts.
As for pants, as long as you know your waist & hip measurement, you're good to go. I used focus only on the waist measurement, until I realised it's the hip measurement that's usually the deal breaker.
4. Pricing within the thrift industry is hard to work on. Some sellers would price it higher (premium items, rare items, better brands etc). Some would price it lower (due to the high number of inventories, but focuses on quality of each one of it). Either way, a good quality thrift item always looks good on camera (because of the preps that goes to the item). And reading reviews helps too.
Wew. That was a long post. Lol!
