After my business in the city collapsed, I decided to return quietly to my village in Nsukka.
I thought village people would pity me.
Instead… they gave me work immediately.
My uncle said:
“Since city people don't want you again, come and continue our family business.”
Before I understood what was happening…
they tied rope around my waist and pointed at one tall palm tree.
Uncle shouted:
“Climb! Today you will produce palm wine for the whole village!”
As I reached the middle of the tree, I shouted:
“Uncle please! I was a businessman in Lagos!”
Uncle replied:
“That is why you must climb higher. Businessman should not fear height!” 😂
When I reached the top, my legs started shaking like generator that is running out of fuel.
Village children gathered under the tree shouting:
“Uncle! If you fall, we will still drink the palm wine!” 😂
One old man added:
“Don't worry! Even if he falls, the palm wine must not waste!”
At that moment I realized something…
Village people don't joke with palm wine. 🍶😂
