Africans have made tremendous impact which has gained global reckoning in the fashion industry. The likes of Virgil Abloh,( of blessed memory) Kanye West, James Tokyo, Priya Ahluwalia, Thebe Magugu, etc.
Nevertheless, we contributed more making the western wears gain more superiority so-to-say against the African wears. Our traditional or indigenous wears are considered "casual" therefore in most offices here in Africa especially in Nigeria you are not allowed to wear trad except on Fridays. This ideology have been adopted by several Churches, Church-worker is not permitted to wear trad except on first or last Sunday of the month or on other exceptional services. Over the years this Norm have been a of concern to me.
The tweet "Normalise wearing trad for interviews" by Samuel Otigba on 23 Jan 2021 gave me a boost knowing that I am not the only one thinking in this direction.
Hitherto I've been working on the concept I called JUXTAPOSITION which is a blend of English and African wears. Stay in touch with me in the coming weeks as I bring some more of these designs.
But today I present to you what I called ITODO JACKET it's meant to be wear on a jumper or caftan.
