This is one small parenting habit many people overlook but it’s actually very important.
New clothes may look clean and fresh in stores, but during production, packaging, shipping, and display, fabrics come in contact with dust, chemicals, perfumes, and many hands. Children have delicate skin, especially babies and toddlers, so washing new clothes first helps reduce irritation and skin reactions.
Use mild detergent when possible and avoid very harsh fragrances for younger children. Soft fabrics plus clean clothing equals happier skin
Another reason this matters in Nigeria?
Heat and sweating. Children already sweat a lot while playing, so fresh clean clothes help prevent discomfort and heat rash.
Teaching hygiene through fashion also helps children grow into responsible adults.
When children learn early that clean clothes matter, it becomes a healthy lifelong habit.
Fashion is beautiful, but cleanliness completes the look
