🚨 SEPSIS, A SILENT EMERGENCY MAMA SHOULD KNOW ABOUT.
Sepsis happens when the body has an extreme response to an infection, causing damage to its own tissues and organs. It can occur during pregnancy, after childbirth, or in newborn babies and it can become life-threatening very quickly. (World Health Organization)
⚠️In mothers, watch for,
•Fever or unusually low temperature
•Chills or extreme weakness
•Fast breathing or difficulty breathing
•Fast heartbeat
•Confusion or unusual drowsiness
•Very little urine
•Severe pain or feeling extremely unwell.
⚠️In newborns, warning signs can include,
•Poor feeding or refusing to feed
•Very fast or difficult breathing
•Fever OR unusually low temperature
•Extreme sleepiness or difficulty waking
•Convulsions
•Pale, blue or unusually cold skin (World Health Organization)
⚠️ Please don’t wait for all the symptoms to appear. Sepsis is a medical emergency, and early recognition and treatment are critical.
⚠️If a pregnant woman, new mother or newborn suddenly becomes seriously unwell, seek urgent medical care immediately.
