These past few days at the hospital have opened my eyes to so many things happening in our society today. I must say that we are seriously neglecting our health.
After receiving treatment because I was very sick, I followed my sister to the renal ward. As I was about to enter, I felt goosebumps. Kidney disease is something I've witnessed firsthand through my late dad, so I know the pain, financial burden, emotional trauma, and challenges that come with it. I was honestly frightened.
When I finally went inside, I couldn't believe what I saw. ๐ It looked like every other hospital ward because every bed was occupied by patients and their relativesโboth young and old. And when I say young, I mean a 26-year-old lady battling Stage 4 kidney disease. Another man with Stage 5 kidney disease was being rushed into the dialysis room. I stood in one corner and cried. I kept asking myself, "Why has kidney disease become so common these days? Are we unknowingly contributing to it?" ๐
While I was standing there, another patient was taken into the dialysis room. I overheard the patient's relatives discussing how much they would need to raise for blood because dialysis can require blood transfusions in some situations. It broke my heart. A single dialysis session costs about โฆ40,000. Imagine having to do it several times every week or month. The cost is overwhelming, and many families simply cannot afford it. ๐
The painful part is that dialysis is not a cure. It is a life-support treatment that temporarily does the work the kidneys can no longer do. Imagine depending on a machine just to stay alive. ๐ฅน
Please, everyone, let's be mindful of what we eat, drink, and the lifestyle we live. Some of our daily habits may increase the risk of kidney disease without us realizing it.
If you have diabetes or high blood pressureโor if these conditions run in your familyโplease monitor them regularly, because they are among the leading causes of chronic kidney disease.
Also, if you frequently take painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac without medical advice, please be careful. Long-term or excessive use can damage the kidneys. Kidney disease often develops silently, and many people don't realize there's a problem until it has reached an advanced stage.
Health is wealth, my people. Let's take better care of ourselves and encourage our loved ones to do the same. I pray none of us will ever have to experience this, but let's also do our part to reduce the risk. May God grant healing to everyone battling kidney disease. ๐โค๏ธ
