The correct phraseology is “as and when due.”

The expression has legal and commercial significance.

What it means

“As and when due” means an obligation (such as payment) becomes due both on the due date as well as whenever it becomes due otherwise than by its due date.

For instance, a payment as and when due is when that payment is officially due on Jan. 20, but becomes actually due when I ring you up to pay it (say) Jan. 10.

Trick to remember the correct phraseology

Many people mishear this expression as “as *at when due.” The easiest way taught in my schooldays over 40 years ago is to extend it first into “as due and when due” and then shorten it back to the original.
