If you're thinking of starting a dropshipping business, please read this
One mistake many people make is believing that once a customer sounds serious, the sale is already certain
I made that mistake too
When I was dropshipping shoes, three people I already knew asked me to order shoes for them around the same time. Because I trusted them, I didn't ask for payment upfront
The money I used wasn't even mine. I borrowed it, believing everything would go as planned. The shoes would arrive, once they pay, I'll repay the loan with interest, and still make a profit
But that didn't happen
When the shoes arrived, each of them had a reason why they could no longer buy them
I spent months carrying those shoes around looking for buyers. Instead of selling, they gradually got damaged
That wasn't the only time it happened. I kept making financial decisions based on people's interest instead of their commitment
Looking back, I don't regret trying to build a business. I just wish I had protected myself better. I denied myself so many basic things because I kept telling myself, "Let me use this money to buy more goods. Once I make a profit, I'll sort myself out"
If you're starting a dropshipping business, please learn from my experience:
📍 Don't place an order just because a customer sounds serious
📍 Don't place an order because they're your friend
📍 Don't use money you urgently need, hoping the customer will pay later
📍 Don't borrow money to fulfil an order unless the customer has shown real commitment
If they truly want the item, let them pay first or at least pay a commitment fee. People can change their minds, but you shouldn't be the one left carrying the loss.
