It’s my birthday today, and today’s Mass felt like God wrote me a personal birthday letter. reassuring me of His presence in my life.
As I listened to the readings, I couldn’t ignore how they all reflected the meaning of my name.
My name, Theresa, is often associated with “reaper” or “harvester.” And today’s liturgy was all about sowing, growth, waiting, and harvest.
In Isaiah 55:10–11, God promises that His Word never returns to Him empty. Like the rain that waters the earth, every word He speaks produces fruit.
In Romans 8:18–23, St. Paul reminds us that every season of suffering and waiting is preparing us for a glory far greater than we can imagine.
Then, in the Gospel Matthew 13:1–9, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, teaching that a fruitful harvest begins with a heart that welcomes God’s Word.
As I reflected, one thought stayed with me:
A reaper cannot reap where nothing has been sown.
If my name points to a harvest, then my prayer this new year is not simply, “Lord, let me reap.” It is:”? Lord, make me good soil. Sow Your Word deeply in my heart. Water it with Your grace. Help me remain faithful through every season, until the harvest You have prepared is revealed.”
Looking back, I realize God has been sowing into my life through every joy, every disappointment, every answered prayer, every delay, and every lesson. None of it has been wasted.
So today, I celebrate more than another year of life. I celebrate a faithful God who continues to plant seeds of purpose, hope, and grace in me.
Here’s to another year of trusting the Divine Sower, believing that in His perfect time, I will reap the harvest He has prepared.
Happy birthday to me.
