The school drop-offs and pick-ups are back, the morning rush is back, and somehow we are all expected to wake up and function like we didn't just spend the last few weeks enjoying a slower pace.

For me, yesterday was a lot.

I had travelled for a week and only returned on Saturday night. So Sunday was basically my only chance to get D***hima ready for school.

Usually when she is commencing a new class, I like her to begin with them on the first day so it's easier for her to settle in.

So, I had to get her school things in order, wash her school bag and shoes, sort out and iron her uniforms, trim her nails, and then, of course, do her hair.

All of that had to happen in one day, while I was still trying to recover from my trip and attend to the other things that needed my attention at home.

By evening, I was tired o. ๐Ÿฅฑ๐Ÿซฉ

But somehow, we got everything done.

And this morning, there she was, dressed and ready for school.

My baby has resumed a new class. โค๏ธ

I was actually quite happy seeing her leave this morning. It felt good to know that despite how hectic yesterday was, we made it.

So, to all the mums whose children are resuming today, well done!

Whether you prepared everything weeks ago or, like me, practically had a full โ€œback-to-school operationโ€ on Sunday , we made it to today.

Here's to a beautiful new school term for our children. May they learn, grow, make good friends and have a wonderful time๐Ÿ’•

PS: we didn't get to take a picture this morning o. So this one will have to serve ๐Ÿ˜€

My name is Josephine, and I wear a number of caps. I am a second-time mum, a business owner, and a postgraduate student.

I became more active on Facebook after the birth of my son, and since then, I've been sharing bits and pieces of my journey here.

Motherhood is a big part of what you'll find on this page.

I'm raising two children, and I'm experiencing motherhood from a completely different perspective this time around. So, I talk about the things I'm learning, the things that surprise me, the funny moments, the difficult moments, pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding, newborn life, raising siblings and all those little things that come with being a mum of two.

But there's another part of my life that I'm also building and sharing here- my business.

I'm building a business from the ground up, and I want to share that journey too. The wins, the mistakes, the lessons, the slow days, the things nobody tells you about starting and running a business, and what it looks like trying to build something while raising children.

And then, there is simply life

The conversations, experiences, thoughts and random things that happen along the way.

So this page is really a little bit of motherhood, business and life, as I experience them.

I'm not here to tell you I have motherhood or business figured out. I don't. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'm simply sharing my journey as I live it, and hopefully creating a space where another mum, another woman building something, or even someone just passing through can find something that resonates with them.

House of Dolls. Sounds scary, right? Well, according to D***h, those dolls are the ones that are scared. ๐Ÿ˜‚

It was bedtime. I had laid the bed and asked D***h to get in. Next thing, she comes with about five of her fur animals and dolls and starts climbing into the bed with them.

Confused, I asked her, โ€œWhy are you bringing all these dolls to bed?โ€

She said, โ€œMummy, I want my babies to sleep with me.โ€

I looked at her.

โ€œD***h, there is no space for all these babies here. So because I am yet to send you to sleep alone, you now think I should also accommodate your numerous toys in my bed?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

She looked at me and said, โ€œMummy please, the dolls will be scared to sleep alone.โ€

Chaiiiii! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜‚

What am I hearing like this?

Since when did dolls become afraid of sleeping alone?

After much pleading and negotiation, I finally agreed that only ONE of the dolls could sleep with us for the night.

Na so me, D***h and one doll spent the night together.

I guess I should take pity on a scared doll, abi?

The rest of them spent their night well tucked in, waiting patiently for morning. ๐Ÿ˜€

Motherhood sha.

You think you're putting your child to bed, only to discover that you have suddenly become responsible for the emotional wellbeing of five dolls and a collection of fur animals.

Does your child also have a whole army of toys that must sleep with them? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Or am I the only one negotiating bed space with stuffed animals ?

Mothers, please when your children advise you on fashion matters, biko listen to them.

Two ladies came into my shop, and the resemblance between them was striking. As they got talking, I realised they were actually mother and daughter.

They had come to get some hair care products, and while they were there, the daughter noticed that we also sell and revamp wigs.

That was when the conversation started.

According to the daughter, she had bought some wigs for her mum and had been begging her to throw away two old ones that were already tired, stiff and wellโ€ฆ let's just say they had seen better days ๐Ÿ˜‚

But her mum was not ready to let them go.

She said her mum would still bring them out, wear them confidently, and sometimes insist on wearing one when they were going out together.

Chai.

I told them and I would love to see the wigs and check if there was anything that could be done.

But in my mind, I was already thinking, it's possible the hairs in question are done for, particularly if they are synthetic wigs and have already outlived their years.

And that brings me to my message for the mothers in this house โค๏ธ

Please, when your children advise you on matters concerning fashion, hear them out o. Especially, mothers with grown kids.

Yes, you lived before them. You have seen things. You know plenty of things they don't know.

But you see fashion?

I am almost sure that 80% of the time, your daughter/child is right.

This post is not to say that the mother and daughter brought the wigs, and I have now worked wonders and turned them into brand-new hair๐Ÿ˜

No.

This is simply to say that if you have a wig that is completely worn, stiff, tired, and you know very well that it has outlived its years- by virtue of how long you have used it, the amont you spent on it, the nature of the wig (synthetic/blend) and most importantly, its current condition- please let it go.

Especially when you have other good wigs sitting at home.

Please, let's stop holding on to the good old days. What is past is past.

And please, mothersโ€ฆ

stop embarrassing your children o.

Because apparently, some of these children are suffering quietly beside us while we are confidently stepping out in wigs that should have retired years ago๐Ÿ˜ญ
