Your measurements can be correct and your garment can STILL come out too tight. 😳
One small thing many beginners overlook is seam allowance.
If you draft with one measurement but sew with a different seam allowance, you are changing the final measurement of the garment.
And when that difference happens around the bust, waist, hip and other fitting areas, it can affect the entire fit.
Pattern drafting is not just about taking accurate measurements. It’s also about understanding what happens to those measurements during sewing.
Save this post—you’ll need it the next time your “correct” pattern somehow gives you the wrong fit. ✂️

I made this dress and I'm curious to know what you would choose.

A — With shoulder pad: More structured and gives the shoulder a defined look.

B — Without shoulder pad: Softer and more relaxed.

But one mistake I see beginners make is rushing to cut fabric before they properly understand the measurements and pattern.

Your fabric is not where you should experiment.
Draft first. Check your measurements. Understand what you're doing. Then cut.

You'll save yourself fabric, money and plenty of frustration.”
