Honest crochet truth most beginners realise late:

When your projects do not come out the way you pictured, it usually is not because you cannot crochet. Most times it is tension, sizing, or simply that your hands have not built the control yet.

This is the stage where many people quietly start thinking crochet is too hard for them, when really it is just small adjustments that nobody explains properly at the beginning.

Almost everyone who eventually gets good has passed through this exact phase. If you feel stuck at this stage, or you have not even started yet, tell me where you think you would struggle most.

1️⃣ Pulling the yarn too tight because you’re scared the work will fall apart then the hook won’t move and everything feels stiff.

2️⃣ Watching the hook instead of the actual stitch, so you accidentally skip loops and the edges start looking uneven.

3️⃣ Trying to go faster before your hands understand the motion… and suddenly nothing looks the way it should.

This is usually the point people start thinking crochet is “hard”, when really it’s just small control issues.

Your tension is what determines whether your work looks clean or messy, this bucket hat was made in double crochet with three different strand and at this point most beginners will be humbled and their piece just looses structure.
I showed someone how to fix this recently and once they understood how their hand should feel like, everything became really easy.
