That is, having real world experience of putting knowledge to the test. It's the difference between knowing what railroad tracks are, and when to get off them. Street smarts can be learned the hard way (failures) or learned through training through a mentor - someone who has made the mistakes before.

I was learning in hard way until I found couple of established entrepreneurs that had passed through what I was seen as challenges. I had recorded more failures than success. Overtime, I had turned those failures into opportunities.
