"My Friend Called Me Crying..."

Yesterday evening, one of my closest friends called me. I could tell from her voice that something was bothering her deeply.

She said, "My sister, I don't even know if I'm wrong anymore."

I asked her what happened.

She explained that she and her husband are devoted Christians. She had been fasting and praying all day. As evening came, she was still praying quietly in their room when her husband came home.

He smiled at her, hugged her, and told her he wanted them to be intimate.

She gently replied, "Honey, I'm still fasting and praying. Can we wait until tomorrow?"

Her husband looked disappointed and said, "I'm your husband. Why should I compete with fasting for my own wife?"

She answered, "It's not that I'm choosing fasting over you. I just want to finish what I started with God."

He became upset and walked away without saying much. Since then, the atmosphere in the house has been tense.

When she finished telling me the story, she asked me a question that made me stop and think.

"If you were in my shoes, what would you have done? Should I have ended my prayers immediately because my husband wanted me, or was I right to ask him to wait until the next day?"

Honestly, I didn't know what answer to give her. I could understand why she wanted to stay committed to her prayer, but I could also understand why her husband felt rejected.

So I'm bringing this here because I know people have different views.

If this woman were your friend, what advice would you give her?

Should she have paused her fasting and prayer to honor her husband's request?

Or should the husband have respected her spiritual commitment and waited?
