Adire Eleko (Alarodudu)

This Adire is also known as Indigo Adire and the designs are drawn free-hand with cassava flakes as a resist form and hand-dyed in the natural indigo dye-bath made from plants and wood ash in South-Western Nigeria.

The dye used is prepared locally by the Yoruba people and called Alarodudu.
It is important to note that with Alarodudu, you must wash the fabric separately because it is always in excess but never fades. It is a living dye and not the chemical type that looks similar to it. The dye is alive and environmentally friendly, so when washing and you notice your water turning blue, you need not worry because the dye is from the earth and not chemical based.

It is important to note that even though your water turns blue, it does not mean your fabric is fading. It only gets better!
