Before Tomorrow Came

In a small village where everyone knew the sound of each other’s footsteps, there lived a man called Kunle.
Kunle was not poor, but he was never satisfied.
Each night, he complained that others were luckier, richer, and more favored by life and each night, an old stranger passed his hut, leaning on a staff, listening quietly.
One evening, the stranger stopped and said,
“I can give you wealth beyond your dreams. All I ask is your tomorrow.”
Kunle laughed. “Tomorrow has not even come,” he said. “Take it.”

The next morning, Kunle woke to riches. His barn overflowed, his pockets were heavy, and people bowed when he passed. He ate well, slept well, and smiled often but something strange happened.
Every day felt exactly the same.
No plans excited him. No hope stirred him. He stopped dreaming, stopped growing, stopped waiting for anything new. Life became full… yet empty.
Years passed.
One night, as Kunle lay awake, he realized the truth:
He had sold his tomorrow, the place where hope lives.
When the old stranger returned, Kunle begged,
“Take back the wealth. Give me my tomorrow.”

The stranger shook his head.
“Gold can be returned. Time cannot.”
And so Kunle lived long, rich, and deeply hollow, owning everything, yet expecting nothing.

That is why the elders say:
"Never trade your tomorrow for comfort today".
