It is more than a strip marked with numbers. A bridge between my vision and my reality. With the Tape rule my imagination becomes a structure, and ideas take on definite form and shape.
With every inch it measures, there is an intention, to achieve a perfect fit.
Before a fabric is cut or stitches are made, my tape rule speaks first, reminding me that a good design begins with accuracy.
The tape rule is my silent teacher, that trains my eyes to see balance, proportion, and harmony, keeping me humble, because creativity without measurement leads to waste, but creativity guided by measurement leads to excellence. Whether I am shaping an armhole, defining a waistline, or determining length, my tape rule ensures that beauty is not just seen but felt when the garment is worn.
In all, my tape rule represents professionalism and separates guess work from actual knowledge, and amateurs from skilled hands. This is a proof that fashion is both an art and a science,and through this simple tool, I am honored to be a Craftsman.

NEW APPRENTICE?🤔

I want to let you in on these great tips that greatly helped me as an apprentice.

I learnt at a Tailor's Shop, what some people refer to as ("a Road Side Tailor's Shop), and as such it didn't have a rigid learning Structure.

A rigid structure here implies a strict curriculum, listing topics and the rest.

Normally, this type of learning environment does not have a rigid structured curriculum. Trainings are usually on the job,and mostly for a long period ( between 2- 5 years).

So what did I do differently from my other colleagues?

➡ī¸ I ensured I always came early to the Shop. If for any reason I had to come to work late, I ensured I was brought up to date. This means that I avoided skipping work for any flimsy reason.

Morning periods are mostly used for the cutting of clothes, so imagine coming to work late consistently when this has been done.

So if you consistently come late for a week, this implies that you have missed a lot, especially when "a once in a while style" was cut that week.

➡ī¸ Observing the Sewing process is also a great way to learn. Once you watch something over and over again, it sticks in your mind.
Don't think that you don't need to observe another person sew, you learn by watching.

Another great tip, is Note taking. This cannot be over emphasized. When you jot down something, you can always go back for reference.

Finally
➡ī¸ The great P.

PRACTICE, you can see I wrote with a capital letter, indicating the importance.

You might come very early to work, watch your Teacher or another apprentice and also take notes diligently, but don't put into practice what you have learnt, then you have not started.

Except you put into practice what you have heard and seen, then your listening and seeing is of no use.
Get pieces, papers or even get cheap materials, but in all PRACTICE.

Don't wait for your Tutor to give you clothes, get your own fabrics and practice.

Practice makes perfect.
