TUESDAY TIP
5 ways to make money from your design/tailoring craft.
1. Bespoke Wears: You’ll typically have a one-one relationship with your client to pull this off(meaning that your clients come to you, you have their measurements taken, the outfit is made, and they come for fitting). You can choose a niche( e.g bridals, asoebi, native wear, etc) and be known for it.
2. Ready-to-wear: This unlike the first requires that you make different samples of your designs, and have them made in different sizes. Clients typically pick these designs off the rack based on their preference. If you are great at marketing and you know your numbers, you might want to consider launching a ready to wear line.
3. Illustration: If you are great at illustrating designs, you can get paid for it, reach out to good fashion design houses and pitch your idea to them, it might shock you on how much they’ll be willing to pay to have you sketch or illustrate designs for them.
4. Trainings: You can train people for a fee, both online and offline. You can also sell digital products like pattern templates, e-books etc….
5. Work for someone else and get paid. Do you know that garment production houses are constantly looking for good staff? Especially pattern drafters and quality control staff, if you are good at pattern drafting, or you have great attention to detail, you may want to consider this option.
-Social Media Management: You can work for fashion design brands by handing their social media pages and getting paid. You can do this remotely from the comfort of your homes, just make sure to deliver on the job.
