10 THINGS I HAVE STOPPED DOING AS A FASHION DESIGNER
1. Trying not to let go, making everyone who comes my way my customer, you can't retain everyone, some will go and some will stay, some will go and still come back later.
2. Over managing fabric for Customer, Av learnt to say NO, if it's not enough , it's not enough cos it slows your cutting process down and you will later be blamed if anything bad happens to the garment .
3. I have stopped managing sewing materials for outfit, I used the right interfacing even though it's expensive, the outcome matters.
4. Sewing for people and not being intentional about my look, now I sew for myself the way I sew for people.
5. Not charging my worth, it's crazy how we consider what is not necessary and neglect what is important, oh! this environment is local so I must charge low, you av forgotten that price of material in the market is same for everyone.
6. Worrying myself if client doesn't come, I tried as much as possible to be busy with other things, include other businesses no matter how small, if one is not working one is working.
7. Allowing client to steal the conversation especially when deciding on styles and fabrics, I give clients genuine reasons why some styles will be a No No for them, or why a fabric won't be okay for a particular style, cos this is my job , and I know it , I can brag about it😜
8. Collecting orders I can't deliver, I work within my means, and give room for dissapointment( either apprentice, electricity, and so on) , I try as much as possible to keep up with time No matter what.
9. Not trying the finished dress on someone or mannequin before the client comes, I tried to do check and balancing before my client comes in,it reduces argument between you and client and boost your confidence and also your client's confidence in you
10. Not Resting when needed: Am not impressing anyone, I take any day off if my body demands it, I relax and eat good food, after all its my money and I tirelessly worked for it.
