HELPING PEOPLE CAN SOMETIMES BACKFIRE

There was a woman who was always willing to help people.
If someone needed a place to stay, she opened her door.
If someone needed money, she tried to help.
If someone needed her time, she made herself available.
She genuinely believed that helping people was a good thing.
And it was.
Until she noticed something.

The more she helped, the more some people expected.
A small favour became a regular favour.
A temporary arrangement became permanent.
And something she offered freely slowly became something people felt entitled to.
One day, someone asked her for another favour.
She smiled and said:
“I'm sorry, I can't do that this time.”
The person became angry.
“After everything you've done for me, is this how you repay me?”
She was shocked.
Then she realized something important:
The moment you start setting boundaries, people who benefited from your lack of boundaries may call you selfish.
But she wasn't selfish.
She was simply learning that helping people does not mean giving them unlimited access to you.
You can support someone without carrying their entire burden.
You can be generous without making yourself responsible for everything.
You can say yes sometimes and no other times.
And you don't have to feel guilty for protecting your time, money, energy and peace.
Because here's the twist:
Sometimes, people don't become demanding because you changed.

They become demanding because you finally stopped giving them what they had become accustomed to receiving.
So help people.
Be kind.
Give when you can.
But remember:
A good heart still needs boundaries.
