You know, stress was actually supposed to help human beings survive danger.
Back then, if one wild animal suddenly appeared in front of somebody, the body would release one emergency hormone called cortisol.
Immediately, the heart would start beating fast, the brain would become alert, energy would rise, and the body would prepare to either fight or run.
The problem now is that your body does not know the difference between a lion chasing you and your landlord sending “Good afternoon” on the 28th.
To your body, stress is stress.
So now imagine waking up every morning:
NEPA has taken light.
You are late.
Your boss is stressing you.
Your relationship is somehow somehow.
You are checking your account balance with one eye closed.
Fuel price is doing motivational speaking.
Everything is happening at once.
Meanwhile your body is there releasing cortisol like it is preparing you for war.
Small stress becomes daily subscription package.
And the funny thing is people now glorify stress too much.
Somebody will proudly say:
“I haven’t slept in 3 days.”
“I’m running on pure pressure.”
“I’m stressed but we move.”
Congratulations, Your body is also moving, towards breakdown.
Because too much cortisol for too long starts damaging the body quietly.
Your brain becomes tired.
Your body stays tense.
You start forgetting things.
Your chest suddenly starts doing gbim gbim gbim.
You’re always angry.
Always anxious.
Always exhausted.
Even resting no longer feels like rest.
Then one random day somebody says,
“Ah ah, but he was fine yesterday.”
Meanwhile the person’s body has been crying for help since 2020.
Stress is actually one of the most dangerous silent killers people joke about.
And sadly, many people, even me sef don’t even realize they are living in survival mode every single day.
Your body was designed to handle temporary danger, not permanent suffering.
Please rest.
Please sleep.
Please laugh.
Please drink water and mind your business sometimes.
Find and do whatever that relieves stress even if na to have your own Chike.🤪
Because at this point, cortisol is working overtime more than some government workers.
