I GOT A BAD REVIEW… AND HERE’S WHAT IT TAUGHT ME. 🥲🩴
I honestly didn’t expect this one.
I made a pair of handmade slippers for a customer, putting my time, effort and love into every detail. I was proud of the finished work… until I received a bad review. 💔
At first, I was hurt. As a small business owner, you naturally want every customer to love what you create. I kept thinking, “But I tried my best…”
Then I took a step back and realized something important:
A bad review doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a bad business owner. Sometimes, it’s an opportunity to learn and improve.
Here are a few lessons I took from the experience:
✨ Always clarify expectations. What looks perfect to me may not be exactly what the customer imagined.
✨ Communication is everything. Ask questions, confirm details and make sure you and the customer are on the same page BEFORE production starts.
✨ Don’t take feedback personally. It can hurt, especially when you put your heart into handmade work, but feedback can help you grow.
✨ Mistakes are part of building a business. I may not get everything right every time, but I can choose to learn from every experience.
✨ One bad review doesn’t erase all the good work. ❤️
So yes, I got a bad review.
But instead of letting it discourage me, I’m choosing to let it make me better.
To every small business owner out there: don’t let one unhappy customer make you question your talent. Listen, learn, improve and keep creating. 🫶🏽
Every handmade piece carries a lesson, and this one definitely taught me mine. 🩴✨
