MYTH vs TRUTH

MYTH:Creative skills won't help my child's future.

TRUTH:Creativity gives children more opportunities for tomorrow.

One of the biggest misconceptions parents have is that creative skills are "just hobbies." In reality, creativity does so much more than teach a child how to make beautiful things.

When children create with their hands, they learn to think differently, solve problems, pay attention to details, and finish what they start. They build confidence with every completed project and discover abilities they never knew they had.

The beautiful part is this: creative skills don't limit a child's future, they expand it.

Every new skill your child learns today gives them more choices, more confidence, and more opportunities tomorrow.Whether they become entrepreneurs, professionals, or pursue completely different careers, creative thinking is an advantage they will carry for life.

At the Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp, we don't just teach crafts,we help children develop confidence, creativity, and practical skills in a fun, encouraging environment.

MEET THE FACE BEHIND THE YOUNG CREATIVES FASHION & CRAFTS BOOTCAMP

Hello! I'm Precious,a Fashion Designer, Fashion Design Instructor, and Craft Enthusiast who believes that creativity is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching fashion and working with young people, and one thing has become clear to me: sometimes, all a child needs is exposure to discover a talent they never knew they had.

That's why I started the Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp.
I believe children should have the opportunity to explore different creative skills while they're still young. Not because every child will become a fashion designer or craft artist, but because every new experience helps them discover their strengths, build confidence, think creatively, and make more informed decisions about their future.

In these photos, I'm wearing handmade Ankara earrings, one of the exciting projects the children will learn to create during the bootcamp. Seeing a child transform simple materials into something they can proudly wear or gift to someone else is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

My goal is to create a space where children are free to explore, create, and discover what they're capable of.

If your child is between 9 and 15 years old, I'd be delighted to welcome them on this creative journey.

Which project do you think your child would be most excited to make ankara earrings, fascinators, beaded bracelets, beaded phone straps ,hair accessories or ankara covererd notebook?

BEAD MAKING: MORE THAN JUST STRING AND BEADS

At first glance, bead making looks simple.
Just colourful beads, a string, and a child making a bracelet or phone strap.

But look a little closer,
That child is learning patience.
They're learning to focus.
They're making decisions about colours and patterns.
They're paying attention to details because one misplaced bead can change the entire design.

And then comes my favourite moment,
When they hold up their finished bracelet, phone strap or keyholder and proudly say,

I MADE THIS

That moment is about so much more than beads.
It's the moment a child begins to believe in their own ability.

They stop thinking,
I CAN'T

And begin saying,
LET ME TRY

At our Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp, children won't just make beautiful beaded accessories.
They'll discover the joy of creating, the confidence that comes from completing a project, and the satisfaction of knowing they made something beautiful with their own hands.

Because sometimes, confidence begins, one bead at a time.

If you'd love your child to experience this, comment "BEADS" below, and I'll send you the registration details for the Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp.

Don't forget, our early bird offer is still on, so this is a great time to secure your child's spot.

ANKARA CRAFTS: MORE THAN JUST FABRIC

When most people see Ankara fabric, they think of clothes.
A dress.
A skirt.
A shirt.

But creativity sees so much more.
It sees beautiful flowers.
It sees elegant earrings.
It sees stylish bangles.
It sees beautifully covered notebooks.
Most importantly,
It sees possibilities.

That's exactly what I want every child to discover.
At our Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp, children won't just learn how to make beautiful Ankara crafts. They'll learn how to think creatively.

As they create, they'll develop patience, concentration, attention to detail and the confidence to bring their own ideas to life.
They'll discover that beautiful things don't always have to be bought, they can be created.

And in the process, they'll also learn to value resources, appreciate craftsmanship and understand that creativity can turn ordinary materials into something extraordinary.

The flowers, earrings, bangles and notebook covers they take home are wonderful.
But the greatest thing they'll leave with is a new way of thinking.
A mindset that asks,
What can I create?
Instead of,
What can I buy?

Because children who learn to create today grow into adults who know how to solve problems, recognize opportunities and add value wherever they go.

And sometimes, all it takes to unlock that creativity is a piece of Ankara fabric and an opportunity.

If you'd love your child to experience this transformation, comment "ANKARA" below, and I'll send you the registration details for the Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp.

CREATIVE HAND STITCHING: THE SMALL SKILL THAT CAN SHAPE A BIG FUTURE

When many parents hear hand stitching, they sometimes wonder,

"Isn't that too basic?"

I understand why.

After all, we live in a world of sewing machines and technology.

But let me tell you a little story..
The very first sewing skill I learnt was needle and thread in Primary 3 during Home Economics class where we learnt running stitch, back stitch and hemming stitch. Our project was Apron made with back stitch with our names hand-stitched on it.
I still remember vividly my white apron with my name Ihechi hand-stitched on it with pink thread. It was so beautiful.
At the time, it felt like just another classroom lesson and activity.

I had no idea that years later, that simple skill would become the foundation of my sewing journey.
When I eventually developed an interest in fashion, I didn't have access to a sewing machine.
But I wasn't empty handed.
I had a needle.
I had thread.
And I remembered those simple stitches I had learnt years before.
So I started.

The very first dress I made as an adult was sewn completely with needle and thread.
No sewing machine.
Just patience, determination and the confidence to begin with what I had.
Encouraged by the result, I made the same dress for my elder sister.
The two of us wore our matching dresses to church.
People admired them.
They complimented our outfits.
No one imagined those dresses had been sewn entirely with a needle and thread, unless I told them.

That moment changed something in me.
It made me realize that you don't always need perfect conditions to begin.
Sometimes, you simply need the courage to use the little you already know.

As I continued learning, I made an Ankara top and a gathered skirt, still with nothing but a needle and thread.
It wasn't until later that I learnt how to use a sewing machine.

Here's the part that still amazes me,
About two months ago, I wore that same gathered skirt I had made with a needle and thread many years ago.
People admired it just as they did years back.
One girl loved it so much that she asked if I could gift it to her.
I just smiled.

As I stood there, I couldn't help but think back to where it all began.
A simple needle.
A thread.
A skill I learnt as a child.

Looking back today, I can confidently say those early hand-stitching skills gave me the confidence to keep going until I became the fashion designer and fashion tutor I am today.

And here's something many people don't know,
Even in today's fashion industry, hand stitching is still highly valued.
Many luxury and couture dresses are carefully finished by hand because some details simply cannot be achieved with a sewing machine alone.
Those stunning fabric placement designs that have become so popular recently? Many are painstakingly attached with a needle and thread to achieve the neat finish that makes them stand out.

So hand stitching isn't old-fashioned.
It's timeless.
It's a skill used by beginners
And it's a skill respected by professionals.

When children learn creative hand stitching, they aren't just learning how to pass a needle through fabric.
They are learning patience.
They are learning focus.
They are learning that mistakes can be corrected instead of abandoned.
They are learning that beautiful things are created one careful stitch at a time.

In a world where children are becoming used to instant results, hand stitching teaches one of life's greatest lessons:
Beautiful things take time.

Will every child become a fashion designer?
Maybe not.

But every child can leave with something far more valuable than a finished project.
They leave with confidence.
With resilience.
With creativity.
With the courage to start with what they have.
Because sometimes, the smallest skill becomes the foundation for the biggest dream.
I know that because my own journey started with a needle, a thread, and one Home Economics lesson in Primary 3.

My journey started with one simple skill learnt in Primary 3. Who knows where your child's journey could begin?

Comment "HAND-STITCH" below if you'd like your child to be part of our Young Creatives Fashion & Craft Bootcamp, and I'll send you the registration details.

FINALLY,IT'S TIME TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU!

For those who have known me for a while, you probably know two things about me.

I genuinely love creating beautiful things.

And I genuinely love working with children.

Over the years, those two passions have shown up in different ways. From making beautiful children's outfits through PreshLight Creations to teaching fashion and working with young learners, one thing has remained constant,I enjoy seeing children discover what they can create.

There's something special about watching a child finish a project they never thought they could make.

The smile.

The excitement.

The confidence.

It reminds me that creativity is much more than making beautiful things; it's about helping children believe in themselves.

For a while now, I've wanted to create a holiday experience that combines creativity, fun and learning in a way children will truly enjoy.

I didn't want to create another holiday class. I wanted to create an experience that children would look forward to every morning and remember long after the holiday ends.

An experience where they can explore, create, make friends, learn practical skills and go home each day excited about what they accomplished.

And that's how the YOUNG CREATIVES FASHION & CRAFTS BOOTCAMP was born.

For two weeks, 3rd - 14th Aug,2026,children aged 9–15 years will learn creative hand stitching, bead making, ankara crafts, hair accessories and creative entrepreneurship in a fun, hands on environment.

I'm honestly so excited to finally open registration.

If you're a parent looking for a meaningful and enjoyable holiday experience for your child, I'd be delighted to have them join us.
Welcome to the Young Creatives Fashion & Crafts Bootcamp!

If you'd love your child to explore, create, and discover new skills this holiday, send me a DM or WhatsApp 08054211844 to reserve a space.

ARE WE RAISING CREATORS OR CONSUMERS?

"Mummy, I want this one."

A little girl pointed excitedly at a beautiful hairband.

Her mum smiled.
"But you already have three hairbands at home."

The little girl giggled.

"I know... but this one is different."

Her mum looked at her for a moment and asked a question she probably wasn't expecting.

"What if, instead of buying another one, you learnt how to make one yourself?"
The little girl paused.

You mean... I can actually make one?

Her mum smiled.
Of course you can. Someone made the one you're looking at.

That conversation got me thinking.

As parents, we're used to buying beautiful things for our children because we want to make them happy.

A pretty hairband.

A colourful beaded bracelet.

A pair of Ankara earrings.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But what if, every once in a while, we gave them the opportunity to become the creator instead of just the customer?

Imagine your child wearing a hair fascinator they made themselves.

Imagine them saying,
Mummy, don't buy that beaded bracelet, I can make one for you.

Imagine them wrapping a handmade ankara earrings and bangles as a birthday gift for Grandma.

Those moments are about so much more than crafts.

They're moments of confidence.
Moments of creativity.
Moments where children stop seeing themselves as people who only receive beautiful things and begin to realise,
"I can create beautiful things too."
That shift is powerful.

Because a child who believes, "I can create," often grows into a young person who believes,
I can solve problems,
I can learn,
I can build something meaningful.

Maybe the question isn't whether our children enjoy beautiful things.
Most do.

Maybe the real question is:
Are we giving them enough opportunities to create beautiful things too?
