It’s been a full day of cutting, sewing, adjusting, overthinking, and still trying to meet deadlines 😭
Honestly, some days are just like that in this fashion life.

What about you?

One of the fastest ways to waste money as a beginner fashion designer is buying fabrics simply because they look beautiful.

Here are some fabrics beginners should avoid until they gain more experience:

1. Very slippery satin
2. Chiffon and Organza
3. Fabrics with large bold prints
4. Extremely stretchy fabrics
5. Cheap low quality fabrics

What Should Beginners Buy Instead?
If you’re still learning, focus on fabrics that are easier to handle:
✔ Cotton
✔ Cotton blends
✔ Ankara
✔ Linen blends
✔ Stable crepe fabrics
✔ Medium-weight fabrics that don’t stretch excessively

These fabrics are easier to cut, sew, press, and correct when mistakes happen.

As a beginner, your goal is not to sew the most expensive fabric. Your goal is to build confidence, improve your skills, and understand garment construction.

Remember: A skilled designer can create a beautiful outfit with a simple fabric, but even the most beautiful fabric cannot fix poor sewing techniques.

The older I get, the more I realize that building a fashion business comes with a lot of sacrifice, including your social life 😭

Shyness is costing you clients, not your talent.
I was once like this and here’s how I fixed it

1. Post your work, process, fabrics, not your face.
2. Let your designs speak for you. Close-up videos of stitching, cutting, and packaging (that stands as your voice)
3. Use on-screen text. Examples, “this dress took 6 hours to make” “what my bride had to say”
4. Practice talking without posting. Record yourself explaining your design. Watch it, improve, delete, repeat.
5. Consistency will kill shyness. The more you post, the less you overthink.
6. Remember this truth. People don’t care about what you can do for them.

You’re not shy, you’re just not used to being seen yet. Start small, stay consistent, and watch yourself grow.

Share this with any shy fashion designer you know 🤗
