Van De Zotte - Tegenwind
Valentine Tip 3°
Imagine cycling through a flat, open landscape. Meadows on both sides. No hills, no trees to hide behind, and yet every staircase on the pedals feels like you're climbing a mountain. That's counterwind.
It appears to be a typical Dutch phenomenon. A foreign translation that comes somewhat close is headwind, but that translation does not do it justice. In the Netherlands, headwinds are not just a weather phenomenon; they are a national part of our lives. It is the invisible force that turns a five-minute ride into a small expedition. It is the bitter wind that creeps through your coat, the gusts of wind that pierce your cheeks and chin like thousands of pins. The resistance that makes you wonder why you ever left home.
Yet there is also a kind of pride in it. Every Dutchman knows that curious feeling of satisfaction when you arrive somewhere; soaked, with blown hair and sour legs, wet-rained jeans and sweat on your back, and then with silent heroism can say: "I had headwinds.
To a foreigner, it may sound like complaining. But it is simply part of living on this flat country. It emphasizes both the resistance and the perseverance needed to get where we want to go.
Headwinds have shaped this country. And it shaped the Dutch. It makes us strong and resilient. I tried to capture the feeling of headwind in this perfume. The bitter wind on your cheeks and chin. The heat that is created when you finally arrive at your destination. The sweat on your back. And the increased resilience.
Headwind opens icy and fresh with notes of pink pepper, juniper, geosmin (petrichor) and water mint. Then it slowly warms up with nuts of resin, geranium, eucalyptus and patchouli. To eventually dry up to a warm base of ambergris, earthy vetiver, leather and sandalwood.
