I’m Petra Sielias and as a 34 year old chronical overcrafter I live in a great time and place. My house and home are in Amsterdam the Netherlands and I share my space with my boyfriend (I call him the Beardwife jokingly) and our two cats. My boyfriend is a pillar of support in this adventure and helps me out a lot when it comes to fairs, markets and product development. He is also a huge lover of
fiber arts. He sees fiber addictions not as a hobby, but as a post-apocalyptic survival skill (he is right you know, once those zombies hit, someone needs to knit socks!)
I’ve always loved creativity and art. Drawing, sewing, knitting, painting, ceramics, papercrafts, origami, pergamano, embroidery, crochet, felting, photography, writing, making movies, writing scripts, putting out plays or indulging in whatever new awesome craft has sprung in existence: I’ve pretty much done it all, just to figure out if it was ‘me’. As a fellow crafter you might know how quickly the torrent of materials can swallow up your entire house (and life) and as my skills improved and methods got more refined I started to get questions from other people on how to make certain things or if I would be willing to sell my time, and crafts, to others. This is how I started giving workshops in a multitude of creative subjects and sharing my knowledge with the world as well as learning from other great artisans in the creative field. In the end I’ve always returned to my big loves: Yarn, fibers and fabric. If you can thread it, hook it, sew it or knit it, I love it. I have a soft spot for crochet, embroidery and knitting and in the winter of 2014 I started to dye my own yarn and fibers. My friends soon asked if I would dye yarn for them and that’s how it started. I’ve recently started to add yarn & fiber related haberdasheries to my repertoire like stitch markers, project bags and spindles.
