Vinkeveense zeilers schitteren op EK Sharpie in Portugal: podiumplek én opa aan de start

Met hun houten wedstrijdboten ruim 2.000 kilometer achter de auto geknoopt, reisden drie Vinkeveense zeilteams af naar het Noord-Portugese Torreira. Hun doel: meestrijden om de Europese titel in de klassieke 12 m² Sharpie-klasse. De uitkomst overtrof alle verwachtingen, met topnoteringen én een bijzondere familieprimeur als resultaat.

Gelijk materiaal, pure stuurmanskunst
De Sharpie is een iconische, 95 jaar oude olympische klasse waarin alle schepen aan exact dezelfde regels moeten voldoen. Niet het materiaal, maar pure tactiek en stuurmanskunst maken het verschil op het water. Voor de kust van Portugal namen de Vinkeveners het op tegen zeilers uit heel Europa.

Jong talent én ervaren rotten op het water
De prestaties van de Vinkeveense vloot waren om van te smullen:

• Podium voor broers Versteeg: Daan en Finn Versteeg (17) zeilden met ijzersterke slotmanches naar een fantastische derde plaats.
• Top 5 voor VeenLanden College-scholieren: Dennis en de 15-jarige Misha van Vliet voeren bij hun internationale debuut knap naar de vijfde plek.

Opa als inspiratiebron: Het zeiltalent zit duidelijk in de genen, want opa Arie van Vliet pakte als oudste deelnemer van het toernooi een hele nette 17e plaats.

Volgend jaar een thuiswedstrijd
Voor Veenlanden College-leerlingen Finn en Misha smaakt hun internationale vuurdoop absoluut naar meer. Het mooie nieuws? Lang hoeven ze niet te reizen voor de volgende editie: volgend jaar strijdt de Europese Sharpie-top om de titel op Nederlandse wateren!

DISKO TROOPER does it again! 🏆
After strong performances in the Fastnet Race and the Sydney Hobart, the J/99 has done it again, this time in the Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.

Jules Hall and Alex Knight took 2nd overall on IRC, while winning IRC Division 3, Corinthian IRC, Corinthian PHS, Double-Handed IRC and Double-Handed PHS. Congratualations!

The J/99 Disko Trooper is outfitted with sail inventory of paneled sails in ZZ Jet Black, ZZ Black Aramid and ZL Code Zero Laminate. Let’s not forget the high-performance spinnakers built from our Nylon Superkote spinnaker cloth.

annual sailing events, bringing thousands of sailors together on the lakes of Friesland in the Netheriands.
The Flits class plays an important role

Guus Bierman dedicated his life to sailing and to creating the best sailcloth, leaving an extraordinary legacy that shaped generations of sailors. His passion and commitment to excellence helped build the reputation of Contender around the world. As Contender Sailcloth continues to move forward, we will carry on the values he stood for and build on the legacy he helped create.

Great to see the Mirror Nationals filled with the iconic red sails made from our Mirror Red Class sailcloth. A fantastic event showcasing the strength of the this one design community and the passion that keeps this class thriving.
