Reincarnation of Military Uniforms Innovation Project at Bright Day!
On the 4th weekend of November, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, the Ministry of Defense will act as the official partner of the largest tech festival in the Netherlands: Bright Day. (https://www.brightday.nl/)
Bright Day is Bright's annual techfest, the leading tech platform in the Netherlands. Always looking for ingenuity in digital technology, the game changers and the eye openers. For this year, more than 20,000 visitors are expected.
The Defense contribution is positioned under the DEFLAB theme.
DEFLAB is the technologyblog of Defense and is part of the recruitment campaign 'Working at Defense'. One of the innovative contributions of the Ministry of Defense is in collaboration with the organization Dutch Awearness with the project Reincarnation of old military uniforms.
This innovation brings the social and economic benefits of the circular economy to Working at Defense
The project of reincarnation of old military uniforms will be officially launched on 24 November 2018 during the Bright Day in Amsterdam with the presence of LtCol Rob van Arnhem and the founder of Dutch Awearness, Rien Otto.
This project is a pilot to test whether it is possible to recycle the used military uniforms into cliff products which the army can use in their daily work. For this project the Cliff products made were Floor plates and Road plates, which can be used by the army under various conditions for different purposes.
The technology used for the Cliff products represents a very important step in the accomplishment of a fully circular supply and production chain that reduces significantly the environmental impact of the many processes associated with textiles and other products. Therefore, the cooperation between the Military Defense and Ducth Awearness is also representative of the emerging circular economy in our government’s actions and in the most versatile fields.
