Hello there! Let me introduce myself: Ilse Kremer, the brains behind Fabulous Fungi. The journey began during my graduation project at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. I found myself frustrated by the fashion industryās neglect of a significant issue ā the environmental repercussions of harmful textile dyes. My mission was to shed light on this problem and present a compelling alternative.
While initial experiments with natural sources like red cabbage yielded lackluster results in terms of colour vibrancy and range, I persevered in my research. Eventually, I stumbled upon various fungal species that produced pigments ideal for dyeing textiles. Some of these fungi were not only safe but also well-suited for the textile industry. The potential benefits of fungal dye over synthetic options and other alternatives motivated me to launch Fabulous Fungi, aiming to contribute to a more sustainable fashion industry.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of my work. Iām enthusiastic about incorporating recycling and natural dyeing methods into my processes. Moreover, my love for colour is evident in my own wardrobe, where vibrant hues take center stage. I firmly believe that colour is a powerful form of self-expression, much like fashion itself. In the world of Fabulous Fungi, I seamlessly fuse my passions for colour and sustainability, striving to bring about positive change in the fashion realm.
