,,Transforming sustainable fashion’’
Michael van der Meide (Hellevoetsluis 1973) is a Rotterdam based fashion designer.
As an intern Michael worked for Vivienne Westwood, Hussein Chalayan, Frans Molenaar, Frank Govers and Aziz Bekkaoui. After graduating from AMFI in 1998 he worked for the stylish interior store DOM by Kristian Koban in Amsterdam and the high-end designer boutique PRAGUE by Louis Dijksman in Rotterdam with brands like Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Dries van Noten, Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, Raf Simons, Hussein Chalayan, Viktor & Rolf and more as a salesman and windowdresser untill the end of 2003. With his talent for interior decoration, colors, knowledge of fashion, textiles, technique, fit, dressing the windows and friendly helpful manner quickly built him a big loyal client base.
At the End of 2003 Michael decides to launch his own small fashion label which he launches with his iconic vintage draped bright colored parachute dresses collection at the Hyères festival 2004. Where his label takes flight immediately. He wins two international design awards ‘the Henri Bendel Award’ and ‘the Puntoseta Award’.
