🐏 Since 1733

I am proud of my own ‘family business,’ it bears my last name, and in a little while, we will have been in business for 10 years. But there is always a bigger boss: Piacenza!

Piacenza was founded in 1733 and is now run by the 14th (!) generation of the family. The company has a specialty: knitting. And for that, they prefer to use the finest materials.

The most beautiful material, of course, is cashmere. Cashmere comes from the cashmere goat. Its hair is longer and softer than, for example, that of a sheep. The finest quality comes from the neck and chin.

These animals naturally live in the mountains, so they must withstand large temperature fluctuations. Cashmere is 10 times lighter than regular sheep’s wool but much warmer because small air pockets in the fibers trap heat.

Piacenza uses only the finest quality from the Alashan region in northern China, near the Mongolian highlands.

At Oeben’s Mercantile, Piacenza cashmere sweaters are now available in three styles: a crew neck, a turtleneck, and a heavier knit Girocollo!

🇬🇧 From the Archives

The Bedale is one of Barbour’s absolute classics. Designed in 1980 by Dame Margaret Barbour herself, it is a shorter jacket so it is also suitable for horseback riding. It also has cuffs in the sleeves to prevent wind from getting inside while riding. The lower part of the lining is even made of nylon instead of cotton, so that any moisture from a horse does not pe*****te the fabric.

Furthermore, the Bedale features all the typical Barbour characteristics: high handwarmer pockets, a corduroy collar, and a brass zipper with a large ring pull. Of course, it is made from 6oz Thornproof wax. This makes the jacket perhaps more suitable for the city than for horseback riding, but we won’t tell anyone in England that.

What makes this Bedale special is the color. The Archive Olive (OL99) is the color in which the first Bedale was released in 1980. This color looks a bit rougher and is somewhat lighter than the Sage (SG91) in which the Bedale is currently made.
