100 billion items of clothing are produced each year.

Overproduction and overconsumption are two of the worst side effects of the fast fashion industry. Over the past twenty years, clothing production and consumption have doubled, yet consumers keep their clothes only half as long. A mind-boggling 100 billion clothing items are produced annually. That's nearly 14 items for every person on the planet.
Textile production contributes more to climate change than international aviation and shipping combined
Fashion has a huge impact on people and the planet, and fast fashion owns a large and growing share of the problem. Fast fashion is growing frightingly fast. The most successful fast fashion brands use influencers and other ploys to push trend driven items at ridiculously low prices, all while producing new clothing collections as often as every two weeks. That all comes at a huge cost to the lives of the workers who make the clothes, as well as the environment.

Fast fashion retailers have made their name by giving us a chance to buy cheaply made pieces that look like designer clothes for next to nothing. But their sales techniques are having a drastic impact on consumer behavior around the world. It changes our perception of the lifespan of the garments we buy and tries to convince us that outfit repeating is a faux pas, when we know it’s a sustainability must do.
Workers’ rights are also strongly violated, and it is incredibly sad to see how a child is trying to make living for themselves by being forced to work under such circumstances. 1 in 6 people work in the world work in a fashion related job, and 80% of the labor force throughout the supply chain are women.

“By thinking of the garments we wear as short-term tools rather than long term investments, we contribute to wasteful consumption patterns that inevitably lead us towards drastic climate change. “

So with all this we wanted to give you 5 tips for sustainable and ethical fashion on a budget.

1. Don’t buy items you don’t need just because it’s cheap

2. Shop secondhand (such as Thrifting, hand me downs etc.)

3. Invest in pieces you will treasure for a long time

4. Find your style without following every trend cause trends come and go

5. Care for your clothes like the good friends and companions they are.

How do you stay sustainable and Environmentally friendly? And what can you do to contribute to saving our planet?🌍🩹
