🌞 Product development 🌞

I’m always trying out new ideas. Some of them never make it past the initial scribble in my notebook, but others are too tempting not to try. I would never sell something I’d not attempted and refined before, so often my own children are the recipients of my ‘first pass’ at a possible product.

I free-painted these little wooden blocks and have sealed them with clear varnish. They were the perfect addition to my childrens’ bedroom shelves but Nova (age 2) has ended up sleeping with all three of them under her pillow, which seems like it would be quite uncomfortable 🤷🏻‍♀️

What do you think? Worth investing more time into? Would this be something you could imagine yourself buying? ♥️

Hoppy Easter! 🐰

Today one of my lovely friends organised an Easter egg hunt for our littles and I took responsibility for the treat bags. I scoured the shops for something cute, and more long-lasting than paper, to no avail. So I made a batch of bags that the kiddos can use again and again ♥️

23 x 23cm, luxury Lewis & Irene design cotton, satin ribbon, fully lined and finished to a perfectionist’s standard. ✨150kr each, or 250kr for two ✨

Edit - only the pale blue design (with Easter chicks, blossom trees and rabbits) and the white (with turquoise and orange detail) left now!

👋🏼 Hi everyone! I’m not even sure how to begin with this post because it’s literally been *four years* since I was last here! A lot has happened in that time - one house move, two beautiful earthside children and one in the stars, the whole pandemic thing, a bit of language-learning and not a whole lot of crafting.

Thank you so much to those of you still here, and I hope I can show you some new things soon. I’m starting with a quilt for my Mum; a replacement for the one I made in 2016 which the dog took a liking to and has claimed for his own.

I have some stock left from my more productive years(!) so I’ll be posting that this week, priced to go quickly and free up some space for new projects. So stick with me - please - there is good stuff coming 🙂

Transport Tuesday!

This quilt-come-playmat was designed to fit perfectly inside my friend's daughter's playpen so that she could enjoy the visual stimulation of the roadmap during tummytime as well as the more traditional patchwork side as a blanket for napping.

My customer chose every colour and fabric herself to make up a completely bespoke blanket that fitted her vision exactly. We found the backing fabric online - it is the sweetest design with a police station, pond, park, restaurant and more to capture baby's imagination as she grows.

It worked out just as well as I'd hoped in the playpen and I hope it will be used for years to come!

All my quilts are 100% cotton with a squishy polyester wadding so they wash and dry quickly in the machine. They fold up surprisingly small so are easy to bring along to a playdate or picnic to roll out for a couple of kids to play on. Custom-design your own or let me put something beautiful together for you: just send me a message to chat about the endless possibilities :)

I absolutely love receiving updates from customers - especially if they include pictures! 😍 This quilt made a long journey to its home overseas earlier this year, and its new (very cute) owner made an appearance a few months later. My customer sent this recently:

"I gave birth to our little baby at the end of July and my parents delivered your blanket soon after. I'm absolutely in love with it and it now forms the background for baby's weekly picture. Thank you again for the time and effort you put in to make it just right. It has been admired so much by everyone that visits. The quality is just impeccable."

It's been a quiet 2017 here at Heron Handcrafts' page, but with good reason: in a few days I'm expecting the newest arrival to the Heron team - a baby boy! 💙

Although I've not been updating my page as frequently as usual, I have still been working on some really lovely commissions, which I hope to upload soon 😊 I plan let my sewing take a bit of a back seat over the coming months while I get to know our little one, but please do contact me if you have any ideas you would like to see brought to life and I will do my utmost to make you something beautiful as quickly as I can!

Along with the morning (all day!) sickness and the baby belly which won't let me sit quite as close as I'd like to my sewing machine, I also took on a really exciting temporary position back in my old line of work over spring/summer - so our poor baby nearly didn't have his own quilt! Luckily I managed to get my act together last week and finish off two lovely blankets for him, so I thought I would share them here...

🐼 Please note the absolutely gorgeous matching pandas that I commissioned from the wonderfully talented Mister Vanger, another local maker who just opened her Etsy shop - you must search for her page and check her out! 🐼

One last thing before I sign off this marathon message: I just want to say a huge 💕 THANK YOU 💕to everyone who still follows this page despite my little hiatus, you are a lovely lot and I can't wait to get back in touch with my first baby - my little business. Once we have established our 'new normal' I will make sure I organise a fantastic ➡️GIVEAWAY ⬅️ to thank you all properly for your support.

Today I learned how hard it is to take photos of metallic fabric! 🙈

This double-sided rose and gold bunting is just lovely in real life - a really modern take on classic pink bunting with the subtle geometric pattern and jazzy golden lettering 💖

One to bring out year after year, classic enough to delight a child of any age.

Measuring approx. 2 metres (including "tails" to hang the string with), this particular bunting set is sold. However - you can have your own set with customised letters and your own choice of fabric for 300NOK plus P&P (£28)!

Send me a message to have a chat about your ideas!

Happy Sunday folks! 😊

I completed a lovely order this week for a lady living in Dubai, who loved the two heart quilts I have for sale on my Etsy shop, but wanted something more gender-neutral. She also ordered a matching "tummy time" pillow to prop up baby's head and chest so that he/she isn't just lying face-down! 👶🏻

After chatting with her by email, I sent her two designs based on her initial ideas and she went with this 💛 lemon and mint 💚 colour scheme with a gorgeous grey backing filled with woodland animals.

The pillow is the first I've made and I'm so pleased with how it came out! The cover is an envelope style which makes it super easy to whip on and off if it gets dirty, and every single inside seam is overlocked to make it extra-secure for washing again and again.
The pillow itself measures approx. 62x38x19cm and is non-allergenic, flame-retardant and filled with 100% hollowfibre (the pillow is also machine-washable).

These pillows can be made to match any of my quilts, or to fit in with your nursery décor. They are ideal for tummytime as well as nursing, or are great for propping yourself up in bed if you have a sore back.

Hope you've all had a great weekend so far - I have a few more exciting things to share this week, so stay tuned!
