Each saree is painted entirely by hand, with one drape taking around 12 hours or more, depending on the intricacy of the artwork.
In Bhagaiya, Jharkhand, our village, also known as Resham Nagar (Silk Town) a new chapter of craftsmanship is taking shape.
For generations, silk work was at the heart of village life. But as traditional silk reeling and weaving work declined due to growing outside competition, many families were left with fewer opportunities for work.
Today, many local women are turning their creativity into a livelihood. For nearly a decade, women in the village have been learning and practicing different styles of painting, bringing their creativity to handloom raw silk sarees. What began as a skill has become a source of income and an opportunity to earn independently alongside their other livelihoods.
From silk to art, the hands of Bhagaiya continue to keep craftsmanship alive.
