Orphan ducklings also love Slow Woven blankets 🧡

This little cutie was blown into my care yesterday, a bit battered after the crazy-strong winds we had here in the Manawatū.

While she waited to be picked up by the wonderful Kimberly from Turitea Bird Rescue she got to snooze under a heat lamp on a Slow Woven blanket.

She’s doing great today (it was the blanket, I tell you!) and Kimberly sent me a video of her happily swimming in the bath with the other orphan ducklings. Too flippin cute! 🥰

The Saturday of our weekend workshop is a real concentrat-y day, but by Sunday we’re well into the swing of things and there’s some very cool weaving happening!!! 🧡

When you’re so excited about your next weaving project that you can’t wait for your hand-dyed wool to dry… so you throw it over the oil heater in the bathroom overnight.

Voilà! Ready to start weaving by morning!

Edited: Don’t do this at home, kids. 🙃 It’s actually not great for the wool! I just did it because I was impatient… and anyway the end product is just going to be for me 🧡

Do you remember the collection of bags I designed for my exhibition last year? The first two photos in this post are the Stella Bag in charcoal and moss.

Well, I still get asked — at least a few times a month — whether I’m going to make more. The answer is a resounding YES! And these are the very first baby steps towards the next collection… woven fabric samples!

I’m starting with the Stella Bag. I love this bag so much. When I designed it, it was my dream bag — kind of casual, but still smart enough for a work situation.

And the first one off the loom is going to be for me! A friend recently teased me about the state of my old handbag 🤣 so I’m going to up my game and test-run the new product at the same time!

I’m going with the plain grey wool. The sample doesn’t look like much yet, but I have a feeling it’s going to be really beautiful 🧡

I can’t wait to show you the finished bag!
