Our most recent winner of the Last Beard Standing award is Damian Watson. Having his best ever day (and night and day and night) running and discovering just how far he can go, Damian did the Muriwai Sea Slugs proud.

The LBS award was first presented to Jub Bryant at Riverhead Backyard ReLaps Ultra in 2021 and the title has been chased by many since then. Congratulations to all and welcome to the podium Damian.

We are moments away from seeing 15 amazing athletes head off into the New Zealand night for what will be the first of many laps around the Backyard Ultra World Championship NZ course based on Otamatata, New Zealand.

Everything kicks off at 1am Sunday 20 October NZT.

Starting at 1am this Sunday NZT, we have the pleasure of live streaming the New Zealand component of the World Backyard Satellite Championships.

The team of 15 'Flying Kiwis' will be representing their country against 62 other countries all around the world, competing until there is only one person left running.

We've got some cool new features of the live stream this time. The most exciting will be live commentary by some legends in the Backyard scene.

We'll also be doing live and recorded interviews, keeping you up to date with what's happening with our Kiwi team and the international competition ongoing.

With the kick off at 1am NZT on Sunday morning, we know that many Kiwis will be snug in their beds while the team sets out on the first lap, so we are going to focus on the international audience for the first few hours. We will then catch up all the New Zealand based viewers starting around 8am on Sunday morning NZT with what's been happening.

From then on, we will bring on the commentators for each transition and at various times throughout the hours and days to come. We've got lots to share about each runner so be sure to stay tuned.

Be sure to put your support and comment in the comments section of the stream and we will pass those on to runners. If you have a question for the commentators, be ready to toss that in the comments as well.

Search Runners with Beards on Youtube to subscribe ahead of the event. The live stream can be found here and is planned to start just before the 1am NZT kick off.
