On June 1, we marched with thousands of others in Auckland City in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.
Local media and politicians called it reckless and 'not our problem' but this is everyones problem.
It is a global problem
The unjust killing and treatment of Black people is everyones problem.
The whitewashing of our media, beauty standards, art, economy and every other aspect of life, is everyones problem.
SAMA condemns the actions of the police force and government of America, and many other nations, and their treatment of Black people.
The systemic racism that poisons our society is not only built on, but breeds, white supremacy. .
We must do better. .
This fight doesn't end when the last black square leaves your feed.
Or when it no longer feels 'trending'.
Black people and their experiences are not a trend, their suffering and oppression isn't something that we can post about for a week and then carry on as if it never happened.
White and non-Black POC need to do better.

Listen to truths
Raise the voices of those our society tries to mute
Do the work yourself, don't expect it to be done for you.
Every Black person deserves more than we have given them so far. Far more. .
Please note that SAMA is run by a male non-Black POC and a white woman, and our statement is written from our perspective. We will never be able to fully understand the Black experience, but we stand with you. @ Auckland CBD
