A little something something I've been working on over the past couple of months. When I bought this table and chairs off trademe I didnt really know what to expect. There was one photo of the set, blurred and dark, so you couldnt really see much detail. The thing that drew it to me though was the 60s/70s aesthetic of the chairs - the autumnal velvet upholstery and interesting shape - but the table is what has really been a happy surprise because it turns out it was made by , a mid century modern furniture designer. It's a beautiful rosewood, 3 legged table that was in desperate need of some love. I got a couple of quotes for refinishing it but both were out of my budget so I decided to get my safety gear on and do some good old DIY. This entailed stripping off the old lacquer, sanding sanding and more sanding, spray varnishing it, more sanding and finally applying briwax to it. The process took way longer than I thought it would and wasnt without incident: I got cellulitis in my arm from sanding too much, and managed to spray varnish in my eye (clever! ๐), so I'm glad its finally complete and we can eat dinner at it!
I'm still not sure if I got the right finish on it, despite the millions of youtube tutorials I watched, but I'm happy with the result.
It's a good time to have a project like this on the go, with the current likelihood of people needing to stay home over the next few months, so I hope this inspires and encourages you in some way ๐ Keep safe and keep inspired โค
