Meet the Rad Dads. This is Andrew.

Andrew Slane is one of the directors behind Blink, a creative agency doing some of the most considered work in print, design and installation in the country. He also happens to run it alongside his brother Tim, who you’ll be hearing from very soon.

Fatherhood, he’ll tell you, was something he didn’t quite know how to prepare for. Nobody does. But somewhere along the way he landed on the most important lesson of all. Mum knows best. Always.

Key account manager at New Balance, self-described wannabe pro golfer, and a guy who has always done things his own way. This Father’s Day also happens to fall the week before Marlow turns one. Pokaiaua Kurukaanga, known to everyone as Chops, is spending his first ever Father’s Day at Northcote Rugby Club. His happiest place, his whānau close by, and a wardrobe that has quietly evolved since the baby arrived. Less loud, more considered. The statement pieces haven’t gone anywhere, they’ve just moved to the shoes and the hat.

We're back. This time we took the Superguide Golf Edit to Rotorua.

Springfield Golf Club wasn't on our radar but we're definitely coming back once the weather permits. Long par-4s, narrow fairways lined with tall trees, hole names like Ball Grabber and Terror, and weather that had absolutely no respect for our tee shots. Classic Rotorua.

ON THE RADAR | Between the Remarkables and the edge of Lake Wakatipu, have done something quietly remarkable.

Matagouri House sits within two natural mounds in the surrounding tussock, anchored by two cubic masonry structures with interior spaces arranged around a sheltered courtyard beneath an engineered timber roof. That roof carries a planted tussock green roof, shaped to marry into the natural landforms rather than interrupt them.

Locally sourced timber, a planted roof, and a building that understands exactly where it is. Architecture that earns its setting in one of the most dramatic landscapes in the country.

Completed 2022. Still one of the best things built in Aotearoa this decade.
