Ralph is one of our Dunedin customers and his layouts have exquiste attention to detail. Here is a new photo from him, showing a new line that he is establishing. It is a rural scene from his 'New Bavaria' layout, with Falkenstein Castle in the background. I have to admire Ralph's handiwork, particularly the rock formations and the ground cover, which uses a number of different elements to create an extremely natural look. Different fibre grasses (colour and length); using little ledges as lodging places for growth; the row of trees at the top of the slope by the wall, with the longer, greener grass underneath.. All good stuff.

‘John’ is one of our very good customers in the Wellington Region and, over the years, has sent us many photos of his layout. John’s layout is very, very good, because he is great on the details.
A while ago, John purchased sufficient backgrounds to cover the rear and end walls behind his layout. Because the layout is wide, however, and there are hidden tracks, wiring and various digital decoders to the rear of the layout which need attention from time-to-time, John built the layout with a 600 mm. alley-way between the wall of the room and the rear of the layout. When viewed from the front, however, the wooden battens supporting the backgrounds, became very obvious (as in the first photo).
John’s solution was to use a further scenic background (in this case FA180518 ‘Saartal’); slice off the sky portion and shape a new panel to the contour of the cut-down background. The new panel was then fixed to the rear of the layout (as in the second photo) and the cut-down background fixed to it.
The result can be seen in the third photograph.
I think John should be congratulated not just because of this solution, but for the excellence of his layout overall.
NOTE: Some of the many of the items we have supplied to John over the years, are in this scene, such as the station (Faller 110115); Strawberry stand (Faller 130260); Backgrounds (Faller 180511, 180514 & 180518); Fencing (Faller 180412); Interior lighting (Faller 180677); Brick Administration building on L.H. side of photos (Faller 120235); Stone retaining walls (Noch 58076); Stone stairs set at rear (Noch 58303) and the Goose-neck lamps (Viessmann 6041)

Recently, one of our very good customers, David from Auckland, sent me these video clips of this NZR goods train. As soon as I saw it, I just knew that it was going to be NZR. Excellent scenery David, even in close up and a tribute to your skills. The model is in TT scale. Faller CarSystem parts were used by David, to build this N.Z. Army truck, also in TT. Thank you David.

Recently, Matt Faubel, one of our customers in Melbourne, sent us these photos of his HO train layout.

I found Matt's comments about the layout very interesting.

'Attached are a few pictures of my trainset. It started over 65 years ago as an oval with a clockwork engine built for me by my father in Germany and a few of the original tracks are still in use. Over the years and in various locations in Australia it grew until; it found its permanent place in my attic space in Melbourne, about 4x5 metres. But it is still a work in progress and will forever be, and that is where a lot of the fun is.

It is a Marklin system, although I have a mixture of rolling stock. It is still analogue and I use a block system. About a third of the track is hidden underneath including concealed sidings and a return loop for the main track. I can run up to 10 trains simultaneously. I have not stuck to any particular period of engines and rolling stock.

The scenery is a German town and village, but not modelled on any specific place except the main station, inspired by the well-known Stuttgart station, including the revolving Mercedes star on top.
(As a side-note – the original Stuttgart station is a terminus currently being converted to a through station, at a cost of several billion euros, so my modelling was ahead of its time and a bit cheaper.)

It has brought joy to multiple generations and was a great escape from the reality of the Covid epidemic over the last two years.

In the past I always took a shopping list on trips to Europe, but the internet has made things a lot easier and I was pleased to be able to obtain various bits and pieces from you.'

I'm pleased to be able to place these photos when more people are able to see them.

Thank you Matt for giving us that opportunity.

Every so often we offer our customers the opportunity to display their model railway layout on our page. A couple of months ago, we received a whole raft of photos from our good customer Ralph Allen. Ralph's layout has been featured in our posts previously and when all the photos we have received, are posted online, some may recognise the layout.
It was decided that the best way of displaying the photos, was to sort them into logical groups, so here are the first four photos. They are of a developing walled town, with the first photo from 2009 and succeeding photos from 2011, 2012 and 2018.
I will place further photos in future posts.

For some years now, customer 'John' has been sending me photos of his ever-changing layout. Some little while ago, John sent me the latest photos, showing a series of photographic background sheets along the rear and ends of his layout. You can seen what a unifying effect it has on the whole layout. The backgrounds John has used are both from Faller, with the stock numbers FA180511 and FA180514. The beauty of using these two (each of four pieces), is that they are able to be joined to create an unbroken scene, as can two other sets of sheets, FA180516 and FA180517.
Our thanks to John for providing these photographs.

Some while ago, John sent me a short series of photos showing the step-by-step creation of a vineyard for his model railway layout. First, was the creation of the hillside terraces on which to place the vines. You can see the cellar doors (NOCH 14225) beneath the terraces. Then we have the hill coloured and with some poles in place to hold the vines. It really is starting to take shape in the next photo, with some of the vines planted (NOCH21540). Our 4th photo shows the completed vineyard with the final showing happy vineyard workers (NOCH 15614). Somewhere along the way, John has used his 'puffer bottle' (NOCH08100) to puff a light covering of scatter grass over the top of the hill. This is quite an impressive little section of John's layout.

Some months ago John, a customer of Eurorail Models, sent me a series of photographs, showing his progress in re-working his model layout. One of the areas he was working on, has small allotments, each with its own little garden shed. John takes a lot of care to ensure that finished areas are immaculately presented.
By now, I sure that this area will have been completed, and it will be interesting to see the final result.

My customer/friend John is continuing the rebuilding of his HO, German layout. You may recall some photos recently, of a section of his layout where he was working on an area around a stone retaining wall.
John has now sent me further photos of his layout, with these ones of the Garden Centre.
