Canterbury Modern Quilt Guild Kia ora quilters - the Canterbury Modern Quilt Guild (CMQG) was created as a place for non-traditional quilters to connect and create!

We encourage anyone who is interested to join us! Beginners and first timers are welcome. Our guild grew out of a desire to meet in person with locals who share a love for modern quilting. Join us for koreo and some creative mahi. Modern quilting responds to the artistry of the quilting tradition, while encouraging new expression. It takes us back to the basics of the early quilters... when women

used the fabrics, colours and styles of their time. Modern quilting may simply be using a traditional quilt block in a new way, such as using modern fabrics, modifying the block arrangement and/or scale. Piecing can be improvisational or measured... either following a pattern or creating your own. Quilting options are wide open too, and either by machine or by hand. Fabrics may be up-cycled vintage sheets, custom printed or dyed fabric, modern quilt fabric designers, or something older from your stash.

This month we also have the opportunity to have our sewing machines electrically tested at 11am for $5. If you aren’t able to attend and have this done, please get your machine tested at a hardware store such as mitre 10 or Bunnings. ( call them to check that they do it)

10am to 4pm. $5 fee.
Dates for this year will be ; January 10th, February 14th, March 14th, April 11th, May 9th, June 13th, July 11th,
Aug 8th, Sept 12th, Oct 10th, Nov 14th, Dec 12th.
