A Fashion Designer/Leatherworker, Graphic Artist and Children’s Goods Designer have joined forces to create Cloak and Dagger Collective, a shared studio and shop space at the bottom of Soleares Avenue in Mt Pleasant, Christchurch. The space is divided into one third shop and two thirds studio so you can see and chat to the designers (two of whom are sisters) while they’re working. In a world where
so many things are now mass produced it’s refreshing to find a shop where you can actually see the products being crafted or designed right there onsite with many handmade in small batches. You can also order custom designed pieces to your specifications and find complete one offs. Kathryn individually handcrafts her premium quality dog collars, leather goods and homewares to order, leather plant hangers being one of her stunning new designs. Using a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques coupled with the finest quality leathers, hardware and craftsmanship Payne’s designs are of heirloom quality. Mark Catley, a Graphic Artist creates striking works which are a mixture of minimal, hand-drawn, black and white sketches; and bright, bold, colourful geometric shapes. His original and fun style which is often complex, yet simple in design can be found as premium quality giclée prints, homewares, clothing and even shower curtains. His work recently graced the cover of local magazine Hazed. Hannah Payne’s beautifully crafted label Locket currently specialises in quality children’s goods inspired by all things vintage. Gorgeous balloon balls, bonnets and drawstring play mats being some of her many popular products. With an emphasis on reusing and recycling materials Hannah also sources vintage and retro vessels to pot succulents which are for sale and plans to add her vintage touch to a homewares range soon. As well as focusing on developing their own collections the trio plan to collaborate on some future products that will be found exclusively at Cloak and Dagger Collective.
