πŸ† 2023 NATIONAL BREEDING AWARDS πŸ†

As we count down to the National Breeding Awards on July 22, we celebrate the 35 New Zealand-bred individual Group One winners who have flown the Kiwi-flag around the world this season. πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

The first foal of the group-winning mare Underthemoonlight (El Hermano), Romancing The Moon (El Roca) was successful in the Gr.1 Levin Classic at Trentham.

Prior to winning at the elite level, Romancing The Moon was successful in the Listed NZB Insurance Stakes at Dunedin and had other stakes placings to her credit.

Underthemoonlight has a yearling c**t by Ardrossan and has since been served by Ocean Park.

Rex rocking his Shoof Tubease boot. So great to have on hand when abcessess/bruises arise and you need to protect the foot or fit a poultice. These can be safely left on in the paddock, and fit over a shoe. They come in a range of sizes to fit all your equines. Thanks Shoof International . TRACEABILITY | NZTR is aware of a number of pages which offer to rehome thoroughbreds (raced and unraced) and as part of our work in the traceability area we are looking to engage with them. Please share the following message far and wide and remember to complete an SR24 whenever a thoroughbred leaves your care for a second career.

Do you have a thoroughbred, raced or unraced?
New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) has introduced measures to assist with thoroughbred traceability once our horses cease racing/training (in fact any Registered thoroughbred).
Rule changes from 1 September 2020 require each horse to have an Accountable Person whose responsibility it is to inform NZTR of the death or retirement from racing or breeding of the horses in their care. In the case of retirement and rehoming they must also ensure the horse goes to someone with appropriate horse knowledge and they must also provide NZTR with the contact details of the new owner.
Those involved with thoroughbreds are well aware of animal activist groups who make claims about what happens to horses after racing. Our Traceability Officer has been spending the past 18 months working through those horses listed on our website as β€œinactive” and has found some wonderful stories of how these horses are now living their best lives as eventers, show horses, happy hackers, or much-loved paddock ornaments.
We would love to hear from anyone who has an OTTB and might want to share their story on our Wall of Fame (https://buff.ly/38T5kju) which is supported by Dunstan Old Horse. Each month we select one of the horses featured on the website to receive vouchers for Dunstan Old Horse.
We are happy to provide help identifying your horse (with a free brand search) and giving you a link to their racing and/or breeding record. To find out more please email [email protected]
