I've joined the most wonderful creative and supportive group/community on both Facebook and YouTube. I'd come across the lovely Kate's channel on YouTube: "Kate in the Nest", where she creates and shares her wonderful and creative slowstitch projects and pieces! Shortly after, Kate started her workshops in Australia and also set up a Facebook group/page under the same name, gaining lots of followers and the most creative, supportive and kind members worldwide!
Each month Kate gives us a prompt and we all create pieces in our own unique way, inspired by that prompt. Not compulsory and no pressure; just for the fun and love of creating!

Another week and having a ball with 2 new projects on the go! 💕
The first one will be my biggest piece so far: a "Family Quilt"! First I took measurements of our bed and I've cut 12 squares of 50x50cm out of a thrifted and washed woolen blanket. Each block will first be covered with a patchwork of (repurposed) fabrics from clothes from each of us, handstitched down by kantha stitching each small piece of fabric onto the blanket, which is such a mindful and relaxing way of stitching! Once all blocks are covered like this, I will then add a more "personal touch" to each of them by adding appliques and embellishments, representing me, my hubby, our children and our grandgirls. When all blocks are finished, I will stitch them all together and apply a backing to the entire quilt. Can't wait to see this one finished, but for now I love the process of gathering and choosing clothes/fabrics that all have a personal story and memory and are no longer worn, hand stitch them all down and then make each block even more personal and finally sew them together as one big family quilt!

Hello, lovely people! 😍
After a long absence here on FB, while unsuccessfully trying to connect my Instagram account to my "Stitchgalley" page, I'm back! Hi there! My name is Micki and I'm so happy to be here! Me and my pup Flo love being outside, going for long walks, running around, getting dirty and just having fun together!

Micki is a handmade soft doll, measuring 47 cm.
Her outfit is also handmade by me: green checkered cotton bloomers, a green hand knitted woolen jumper, torn and embroidered jeans, striped socks and a hand knitted bag with her doggie Flo in it!

Today our beautiful grandgirl Belle turned 8!
It was just so lovely to see how happy she was with the birthday present I'd made her! I started with a drawing on natural cotton fabric of The Netherlands (where her mum was born) and New Zealand (where her dad was born), then embroidered and connected the two hearts in each country and painted the surrounding space with watercolor. To finish it off, I handmade the little softdoll on top, representing Belle ♡♡♡
