Something fishy is happening around here...

Mini Stitchers are stitching up a storm this term.
They wanted to make their own squishmallows, so that's what we're making! 🤩

They have brain stormed, sketched, designed, drafted out a pattern, chosen their fabrics, used different stitched for different jobs, overcome lots of problems and now they are well on their way to getting these little (or should I say big) squishies finished in the next few weeks.

Ka Pai kids!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Another awesome sessions at Sprouts Sewing Club!!

21/05/2026

came to me with a couple of requests;

1) Repair a rip in their teardrop flag (thanks Westcoast wind!)

2) Make a new bag for their (pretty heavy) co****le game.

So me and the team got to work...

We repaired the flag using interfacing and invisible thread.

And using an old sail (which is like the heavy weight champion of fabrics) constructed a new bag. We used the existing webbing and used the logo from the old bag. And Voila!

Feel good points for this project...

🤩 Keeping stuff in the job for a bit longer
(i.e. Saving it from going into landfill)

🤩 Reusing the old sail
(i.e. Saving it from going into landfill)

🤩 Keeping Toy Library toys in circulation for longer.
(i.e. Saving it from going into landfill)

🤩 Saving the Toy Library lots of $$$'s. New flags are costly!

🤩 Supporting local a local business 🙋‍♀️

I'd say that's five big fat feel good points all in one! ☺️❤️

Sprouts Sewing club creations.

This week we had a whirl with the sewing machines.
These kids are 5!
They need books under the foot pedal to be able to reach it!
But they are some of the fastest learners I have.
Neat stitches, cornering like a formula 1 driver and overflowing with creativity!

Sewing Bootcamp series II has just come to an end. The course runs for 4 weeks covering the basics of sewing, including machine basics, repair techniques and reading a commercial pattern.
The fourth week is where students start, finish or plan a project of their own.
We had a whole spectrum, ranging from mending a rip, hemming a dress, making a sandwich bag, cutting out a pattern for a skirt, shortening sleeves, and a fancy top with French seams and bias binding!

Teaching sewing is what I love, but the best part is the people. Watching a group of lovely humans come together each week to learn, laugh at the wonky bits, celebrate the wins, and leave smiling ☺️

90's Belt Bags - What a 'VIBE' (that's what the cool kids say these days right!?)

If I'm honest, this was a 'let's just try it and see what happens' project. It was the first time I'd done this project with kids (well anyone actually) and there was definitely some tricky parts involved.
💪Lining
💪Inside pockets
💪Zips
💪Webbing straps.

But as usual, these kids smashed it! 🤩

The fun of being six definitely doesn’t stop at holes in the knees… ⛷️🧎‍♂️ 😆

I’ve just finished mending a well-loved bunch of kids’ pants using visible mending techniques, turning worn-out knees into monsters!

Visible mending is all about celebrating the life of a garment, not hiding its story. It’s a creative way to give otherwise great pants a second (or third!) life.

Less waste, more fun and clothes that can keep up with the adventures 😜
