This is my favourite veil on the rack right now, and honestly… can you blame me?

Soft cathedral-length tulle with the prettiest pastel floral detailing around the train - blush pinks, dusty rose, sage green, and ivory tones for a romantic garden-inspired finish.

Perfect for a bride wanting something delicate, feminine, and a little bit magical.

Available now at Emma Jayne Bridal.

That loop under your train is not designed to be a wrist loop.

It’s there to help hang the train properly when your dress is being stored or transported in the garment bag.

For the wedding day, you’ll usually want a proper bustle instead - something designed to lift the train securely, sit nicely, and let you move around hands-free.

Not a wrist loop. A hanging loop.

The best bridal alterations specialists book up earlier than many brides realise.

We already have a wait-list for February 2027 brides.

You don’t need to wait until your dress arrives to secure your place. Once your gown is ordered and you know your wedding date, you can book your alterations spot ahead of time.

Your fittings still happen closer to the wedding - usually around 8-10 weeks out - but booking early means you’re not scrambling for availability later.

Book early. Your future self will thank you.

Wedding dress alterations can catch brides out - not because they’ve done anything wrong, but because there’s a lot no one really explains until you’re in the fitting room.

Your dress is only the starting point.

Simple changes aren’t always simple.

The fit usually comes before the hem.

Your dress doesn’t come with a bustle.

And alterations need their own budget.

The goal isn’t just to make your dress smaller or shorter. It’s to make sure your gown fits properly, moves comfortably, feels secure, and still looks like the dress you fell in love with.

Because your wedding dress should feel like it was made for you.

Bridal alterations usually start around 8-10 weeks before the wedding, but booking your space earlier is recommended - especially for summer weddings.

Wedding Awards are lovely recognition - but I’m curious how much they actually mean from the outside.

As a bridal alterations specialist, it feels really special to see this part of the wedding industry recognised. There is so much detailed, specialised work that happens behind the scenes to make a gown fit, move, bustle, sit, and feel right.

But awards season has also made me think about how different awards work, what the badges mean, and whether couples actually take much notice when choosing their vendors.

So I’d genuinely love to know: do wedding awards influence how you see a vendor, or are they more of a nice bit of recognition?

Voting closes tonight for the New Zealand Wedding Vendor Awards - thank you so much to everyone who has voted or sent kind words. It means a lot.

A day in the life of a bridal alterations specialist - quiet week edition.

The rack looked full, but for once nothing was urgent, so the day became a mix of school drop-off, a birthday cake run, a very necessary studio reset after mopping the floors, a quick fitting, and finally starting a lace-trim veil.

Not every studio day is full wedding-season chaos… although apparently putting mannequins away still comes with a bit of drama.

"I was so glad I picked Emma to do my bridal alterations. She listened exactly to what I wanted and offered advice and suggestions. I had a crepe fitted dress and she altered this so beautifully, it was faultless. I loved my dress so much. She also added sleeves to it and helped me to choose a veil from her range that she had in her fitting room. She is also just so kind and I felt so happy after each of my fittings. Her steaming the dress and delivering it to the house I was getting ready at on the day was also so handy. I cannot recommend her highly enough! Go with Emma, she will make your dress amazing!"

🥹 Such a joy bringing this bride's vision to life!

If only I was better at taking before and after photos 🤍

Because this dress went from gaping to sculpted.

The fit through the bodice completely transformed this gown - secure, supportive, and shaped properly to her body while still keeping the original design and drape of the dress ✨

There’s something so rewarding about seeing a gown come together exactly how a bride hoped 🤍

“Just wanted to say thank you so much for your hard work on my dress. She looked and fit amazing, and proved several people wrong who said the bustle might snap! Never even considered changing out of it and I’m so pleased because wearing it all night was something I really wanted to do.”

I won’t forget working on this gown anytime soon - that hem was definitely a challenge 😅
Heavy satin bagged out with delicate tulle, with an extra wide crinoline braid… absolutely beautiful, but not exactly alteration-friendly 😂

Seeing her able to comfortably wear her dress all night made every bit of work worth it 🤍
