My next course dates are now available! I'll be running courses in both Raumati and Ōtaki this November/December.

I'm taking October away from baby massage teaching to focus on my doula role (exciting!), so these November dates will be my last for 2024.

If you've got a baby under one year, or know someone who does, baby massage is a beautiful way to connect with so many physical and emotional benefits for parents/caregivers and pēpi - come along and learn all about it with me.

I was talking to some grandparents yesterday about a few battle of wills they’d had recently with getting baby into the car seat and these are the strategies I shared with them:

1️⃣ Model positive behaviors “wow granddad you put your seatbelt on quickly!”

2️⃣ Prompt them “when we get in the car I’ll help you get into your car seat and then you can have a stamp on your hand”… “that strap is a bit frustrating but you’re staying calm in your body”

3️⃣ Praise them - we talked about using stamps or stickers as wee incentives, but fist bumps, high fives, and positive encouraging words also work.

These strategies all come from the Incredible Years course, which is something my husband and I found hugely valuable as parents. It’s surprising just how applicable the strategies are in situations I run into at work too 😝

Feeling a little sentimental and a little sad today too- we are officially not going to be at the Wellington Baby Expo this year - a decision made a wee while ago but feeling real today as I start to see adverts for the Auckland expo this weekend. For those businesses attending, have fun and make money! For our customers, we will organise an online sale on the week of the Wellington expo and hope to be there again next year.

Pin This Later, But Don't Forget to Live It First!

We see you, mama (or papa!), meticulously crafting that dream nursery straight outta Pinterest. But hold on a sec, where's the baby in all this?

How to use a metal locking clip:

➡️ Buckle your seat in with the seatbelt and apply pressure into the seat to tighten and find that perfect point where the seat won’t shift side to side.

➡️ Undo the seat belt while pinching the belt in place, and thread the metal locking clip near to the tongue of the seat belt as demonstrated in the image, across both the shoulder and the lap portions.

➡️ Apply pressure into the seat again and buckle the car seat in. If you have it tight enough this will be the hardest part and you may even need a friend to help apply pressure to the seat as you buckle the belt up!

➡️ Double check to ensure the seat moves no more than 1 inch max side to side at the belt path. It’s totally fine to start again if you need to- take a deep breath and know the effort here is worth it.

Bonus tips:

✨Periodically check the condition of your clips for signs of age or wear (these ones last ages usually).

✨Every few months take out your seat, clean underneath and clean the car seat then reset your install.

✨ Some seats come with locking clips- you’ll find a locking clip in the back of most Diono Radians for example. But most brands don’t come with them- they are a small accessory you may have to purchase.
