A grainy old video of the shop 18 years ago from Facebook Memories ! Things have certainly changed, but it's still oddly familiar 😆. Music (Man in Black) is by BWA DA RIDDIM from the SKA-OTEA-ROA CD compilation.

When Murray Shaw opened Lo-Cost Records in Petone in 1991, one competitor sneered that he would last a month. More than three decades on, his shop is one of the great record stores in the country, with an international presence via Discogs. Locally, people are still drawn to the Jackson Street emporium's deep stock, both preloved and new, and–of course–to Murray. It's compulsory destination record shopping.

The competitor is long gone.
