My fondest memory in the late 70s, was riding my bike after school from Owen Street to Te Aro Flats I think they were called, and it was when they were first built ... so I thought wow ... what a flash Hotel!!
I had a couple of mates living there too and I always thought they were wealthy. I didnt know what Council Housing was?
Next door to the Flats, on the corner of Daniell Street opposite PIC Church was what I thought was a youth centre, but they always had guys in patches there ... it was like a club house ... I wonder if anyone remembers it?? I used to frequent that place also. It may have had an adventure playground on there too if my memory serves me right?
